Well, I enjoyed reading that.
I remember hearing about this Dermot O'Leary guy, from colleagues who had E4, before I did. Apparently he was some hunk.
When I eventually got to see him, I thought 'is that it?'. But over the years, from things besides BB, (and actually, also from things related to BB), I've come to the conclusion that Dermot O'Leary is a man with integrity - something I admire.
I know, you'd wonder if I'm a 'BB fan' at all.

I'm of Irish descent & catholic - big deal.
It would be nice, crucial & intelligent if the vatican promoted certain types of contraception & a woman's right to be in complete control of her own sex-life/expected marriage 'obligations' in the third world where lack of education & male dominated societies are rife.
AIDS/HIV is an epidemic in Africa.
Not quite sure Dermot addressed this.
Oh & by the way, Dermot has always supported Jade - a person Shilpa Shetty wants nothing to do with - but then again he did have obligations to his agent - how's that for integrity?
Ken Russell couldn't leave the house quick enough.
I'll always remember Dave Gorman's appearance on BBLB on CBB5.
When Dermot asked him what he thought about the housemates, Dave Gorman answered he didn't like the Goodys, & added that Jade's mom refering to Shilpa as 'the Indian' was borderline racist - the panic & look on Dermot's face before he defended the comment was quite incredible, Jade being in his stable - & this was a few days before Jade's racist comment in reply to her boyfriend's racist comment in that limerick.
And before Dermot says Jade is 'street smart', a term that could be tediously & tiresomely applied to any thick yob who hangs around the streets, I think he should remember that many poor, working class people who have had bad lives have an intelligence which determines a hatred of any kind of racism.
His heritage and religious denomination are irrelevant to me.
But to answer your point on whether or not Dermot addressed the Roman Catholic leadership's policy on AIDS and the developing world - my guess is that he, like many other Catholics, wouldn't agree with it. Perhaps he may lobby for change - it's worth a try. In the meantime, it seems he was doing something to publicize an organisation which he believed to be doing some good for people. Maybe he thinks that's better than doing nothing?
I stand by what I said, that I believe he has integrity - meaning he's not 'one person' on BB-type shows, and another when he's somewhere completely different.
I am of the opinion that he means what he says. Of course, there are restraints on a person when they are contracted to present a show - it was BBLB, and not 'Dermot O'Leary's chat show'.
His agent is no longer the same as Jade Goody's; therefore I imagine that he feels no obligation to say this or that to placate his agent - therefore the fact that he hasn't changed his view, would lead me to conclude that he indeed has integrity.
I'm sure Dermot did look alarmed when the word 'racist' was said by Dave Gorman - no-one would be happy that racism was rearing its ugly head.
Had Shilpa Shetty, International Actress, been from the USA, I wonder would Mr Gorman had been so horrified if someone referred to her as 'the American'?. CBB Housemates in the past had been described as 'the American', or even 'The Yank', and I've certainly heard comments, and read posts, along the lines of 'why don't those bloody Yanks stay out of our Celebrity Big Brother - we have enough British people who could go on it'. What I'm saying is that labelling someone by their nationality is unfortunate, and 'lazy' - Jade's mother is like that - she didn't make the effort to learn Shilpa's name. Perhaps Dermot didn't think of it as borderline racism', but ignorance?
I said I could hardly be described as a 'BB fan', because it seems that most people think Dermot did a bad job. I don't, which makes me different.
