The bananas were mere currency in a little power-play between Mohamed and the wider group who were seeking to marginalise him. Kat understood that by also joining in and so did Rachel who wanted so much to support their mini-rebellion but was paralysed by fears for the consequences.
Well said (and well argued) John.
That's how I interpreted it too (but wouldn't have been able to put it so elegantly).

The proof though comes from Rex's goading of Rachel... surely no one is suggesting he was trying to talk Rachel into being hungry? He understood exactly what was happening and was happy to milk Rachel's discomfort.
I don't get Rex's appeal at all. Good-looking? Maybe. Arrogant? Definitely. Is that so attractive? Some women seem to like that, always baffles me. I suppose it's the equivalent of men falling for high maintenance vamps. Once bitten (blood-sucked) you learn better though.
Anyway, I think Rex is a conceited bore. He's spiteful, self-interested, boastful and boring. It's no wonder the only friends he has are as vapid as himself.
As I said in another post, don't go on Big Brother if you're looking for self-validation (post here on BBFans with the rest of us malcontents).
He is a great HM though. I do enjoy frowing my brow and muttering profanities when he's on the screen.
I know I said he's boring, but great HMs can also be boring such as Jon Tickle, Eugene and (to others) Cameron.

Later, Luke and Bex both, possibly Stuart too were supporting Darnell when he also decided to take a banana, again to score a point not because he'd suddenly fancied a nibble.
I thought they were just glad to see someone get themselves into trouble with teacher. It's real playground stuff in there (always is). "No, YOU put a landmine on teacher's chair! Go on!"
They were delighted that Mo and Kat ate of the forbidden fruit. "Hey, Big Brother will have to kick them out! We might not even have an eviction next week! Hooray! I'm safe!!"

The golden rule in Big Brother is that whenever food is mentioned, its almost never about hunger and always about politics. That's why BB themselves have always made the supply of food into the house such a principle feature of the show.
Agreed, it's a much better strategy to create conflict than sleep deprivation. You don't want tired HMs sitting around miserably grumbling, you want them active and grumbling. Wait, they do just sit around grumbling...
