Post subject:  £££ PRIZE FUND £££

I think they should do something with the prize fund - maybe do away with it altogether. In real terms it's been dropping since the start, most significantly in the last two years. In fact 2003 was the last year that the full prize fund was won.

I wonder how the housemates' attitudes would change if one of the following scenarios was introduced:

1) Prize fund starts at £0 and each 'pass' gains substantial reward, and each misdemeanour incurs an equivalent 'penalty' - eg £25k a throw.

2) Prize fund starts at £500,000 with similar rules but each loss or gain is, say, £50 or £100k.

Do you reckon it would make much difference to the housemates if either of these options was introduced? Or do you think that the lure of tabloid notoriety is enough in itself?

The prize fund is a very negligible amount compared to what the top 3 earn outside the house anyway.
I say do away with the prize money, and spend it on buying decent props for the tasks instead, to make it a bit easier to watch this series.

I think do as the OZ BB did. Has a starting fund of £1000000 (Theirs were $AU 1000,000). Then for each time a rule is broken like not wearing the microphone then a fine is deducted from the prize money.
The HM on entering the house didn't the prize fund amount.
By the final the finds had mounted up to I think over half the prize fund. People who constantly broke the rules and lost the most did cause some tension at times but it's one way of separating those in there for the money and those who really are there just for the experience.
I think not wearing the mic was a $AU5000 fine. There was another of $AU10000 but I can't remember what that was.
In the final Friday Night games the remaining HM helped by some past HM did have the chance to win back the money that had been lost but it wasn't made easy.

For those who don't know ,each Friday night there were games starting with two teams of HM reducing down to one winner who had access to a rewards room for two days along with one other HM who they chose. Also they had the power to alter the nominations by removing I think it was 3 nomination points from any body after the nomination results were announced. They also got to set who did the house duties for the following week.
The games took place in an adjoining area to the garden and were broadcast live.
The rewards room had luxuries like DVDs to watch on a plasma screen ,fancy food ,comfortable bed etc.

Made great television and added to the competitive spirit. What in the first two rounds were team games turned into everybody for themselves in the last round.

Any idea which makes the lazy gits do the tasks, it was so infuriating watching them last year, whinging about how no-one was doing the tasks, whilst not doing them themselves

I think they should start off with a large amount, say £250,000 but each time they break a rule, money gets deducted but they should not have a chance to make that money back.
The rule should be, you break a rule, you lose some cash...Tough!!

For passing tasks, they should win luxuries but not cash

I fimly believe the winners prize money should be £100K and not be affected(and be backdated for past winners too :D )by anything-winning has to mean something-especially given that some people are just in it for the peripheral earnings potential.
The tasks should mean something important to the life in the house-food/booze/nomination rights/rewards etc -the good thing about BB3 was that the live saturday night tasks were so important for the HM's and made rivetting TV.

Let us not forget that the housemates are also paid a fee for taking part...wasn't it about £14 per day a couple of years ago?

I do believe that the prize money should be kept, if only to keep the minds of the HM's focussed.

If you recall, it was the suddon realisation that the prize fund was rapidly disappearing, that caused the HM's to bundle Kitten out of the door during BB5.

With a bit of thought, I would suggest that the producers could come up with some interesting ways of exploiting the greed of the HM's. They tried to do this with Eugiene last year - but I think they could have made his decision much harder if they had told HIM that the fund would be doubled if he refused the offer.

I think it was also a little late in the game for any feelings of betrayal to develop.

One suggestion could be that a HM (probably a task winner) gets to choose whether to take £5000 in cash - but by doing so, puts the house on a very low food budget.

Lack of food will always cause tension...but at the end of the day money fuels more arguments in life than anything else. ;)

Even if there was no money to be won, people would still enter for the fame and the tv work afterwards, so I don't think money is really an issue, although it helps! and puts an added edge to the whole thing. ;)

Of course they could be giving a percentage of the money that is made on phonecalls, that way the more successful the series is, the more money they'd make :D

Yeah either raise the money during tasks or lower it if they fail the tasks
