Ok, I approach the new series of BB with some apprehension, the three presenters Davina: Utterly lost interest in the show, doubt she watches it anymore apart from her own appearances. Despite this her bias in interviews is just embarassing, her interviewing technique is all about her, and self-promotion, cringeworthy. Really hoped her BBC show would be a good way of getting rid of her, but the pathetic ratings mean we're stuck with her Dermot: Oh please stop it, ever since BB4 when a couple of adolescent-acting female (on)Heat journos decided his dancing was great, his ego has overtaken the BBLB show. Again he seems bored with it, but a long list of failures on telly means he'll cling on until his dying breath. Thankfully Channel4, if not Endemol, have sussed him, and will no doubt have him at 3 o'clock in the morning soon Russel: I have actually said he was the best of the lot last series, but thats only because he seems to watch and enjoy the show. He also makes the odd mildly amusing comment. Mostly though: hes a narcissistic; unfunny; irritating; poseur; who makes up hes a tortured soul with every problem under the sun, when in reality his only problem is being stupidly self-absorbed My preferred list, from: Jonathon Ross, Brian Dowling, Justin Lee Collins, Lauren Laverne, Alison Hammond, (not Alex Zane, please hes a tw@t ):D |

Davina... Oh yea I agree. She is more and more making me cringe when she interviews the HMs on exit. Plus most annoying of all is that as you point out she only watches the highlight show and as such isn ot a real full BB Fan and falls hoplessly for how everything is edited to look and that is so usualy as far from the facts as its possible to get. Dermot - BBLB last year was an unwatchable 20 min long homage to Dermot , any actual BB fact or info in the content became almost incidental. Russel - His show has the same shouty people in it each week, with their fixded biased views portrayed never mind the facts. Overal I dont get his humour, he`s another who is totaly insulting of his guests to get cheap laughs .... (sorry GG) If I was going to pick a replacement I would say Richard Hammond from Top Gear |

Richard Hammond? Never seen him in action, but have heard good reports about him...he'll do... I like that hairy West Country bloke (did I really use the term 'bloke'? ) - can never remember his name...he did the Grange Hill re-union....oh heck, will Google (by the way, Google pay good salaries, here in Ireland... O.K....he mightn't be able to interview housemates at all...but at least his accent is good. I'd like to see some BB ex-hm do some presenting. It probably wouldn't work, as Ray says...but it'd be nice to see one of our 'kids' get the gig. Brian....Alison....ah sure, why not? Am I wandering? Yes. 5 weeks to BB....that will have me back to normal. |

Hmm, where to start? Davina is such an integral part of big brother that she can't be replaced without changing the whole character of the show. Her enthusiasm and tension-building antics, while being rather predictable after 10 series (including CBBs) are part of what makes the show compulsive viewing. While I agree that many exit interviews have been hugely disappointing recently, I'm wondering if that's not the fault of the little voice in her ear? I hesitate to say 'back to basics' because that counjours up images of BB4, but I think we might get much better results from Davina unplugged. Dermot and the BBLB crew are the masters at making something out of nothing, but I didn't wake up early enough to catch much of BBLB last series to comment. As for Russel, I have to admit a bias as I'm one of the 'same shouty people in it each week' (well, I've been on 6 times and said a total of 1 and a half audible sentences!) but that show strikes a great balance between offbeat humour and BB chatter, which is necessary because (like BBLB) it has to be able to fill it's slot on a day when nothing happens. Russel isn't behaving like a Davina replacement, because his role is to busk, snipe and be witty, and Davinas is her role is to be enthusiastic, one of us and excitable, both are cast well for their respective roles. I've been lucky enough to be in the studio for an exit interview, and on BBBM when Dermot was a guest, so I've watched all 3 both 'at work' and off camera, and their 'stage presence' really is astonishing in the flesh. I respect all 3 a lot more now, and think that replacing them might be a much harder task than is first appears. As for replacements, I think the key issue is that the 3 roles we are discussing are very different, I could see Brian (with his kids TV experience) covering for Dermot, but not for Russel or Davina, and my personal favourite Paxman would be great for exit (yes, but did you threaten to nominate him?) interviews, but a nightmare if thrown in with the baying hoarde of BBBM! |

I'm bored with Davina now. She looks the same every week and is very biased and pretty weak in her interviewing. I say Jeremy Paxman should do it

totally agree gg - Justin Lee Collins has a fantastic Bristol accent! And he's funny And he's quite sexy And he's enthusiastic And just hearing him talk makes me smile I'll join your campaign. Apologies to all Davina fans, but she pulls too many faces - it drives me up the wall |

Davina is by far the worst- she is terrible on the eviction interviews, and pulls rather strange faces. Russell is my favourite. Hes one of the best talents on telly. Have you seen his new MTV show, 1 Leicester Square? Its top. |

Couldn't agree with you more about Dermot, Rince; the guy is almost too bland to be irritating - & his obsession with 'Sheriff Stu's' hat sez everything about his limited sense of humour & laughable sense of wonder. Every TV show Davina has done apart from BB has been either dire or ultimately forgettable, but that's not all Davina's fault The chat show was just nothing television with nothing guests. But she is a good presenter, & the friday night evictions wouldn't be the same without her. |

Hmmm. Would BB be Big Brother without Davina there? I very much doubt it. As much as her increasing woodeness and cringeworthy limp wristed cardholding hand irritates the sticky brown stuff out of me, I quite feel at home with her there. I get the distinct impression she doesn't watch the show as much as she used to and has become more of a puppet on a string for 'people upstairs' and voices in ears. Her interviews were much better in the first few series most likely due to the lack of worry about people sueing for questions they didn't like As a side issue to that I loved it pre 'birdsinging-roadnoise cos theyre talking about something we can't broadcast for legal reasons'. Why the hell screen a conversation of 'white noise' when there are another 8 of the captives to listen to???
I don't think its the presenters that need to change as much as the formats. I'm fed up to the back teeth of Dermot prancing about with competitions where so called fans phone in to win prizes. If they had watched a single minute of the show then they'd get more questions right... its not funny, its just sad! I'd much prefer to see the sadness of some of the die hard BB fans we all know are out there. The ones where for most of their lives when BB is on, join the housemates by setting up mini home on their sofas, the ones with shrines to the most hideous and annoying member of the house because theyre so fame hungry theyd do anything for their 15mins of fame. Lets not beat around the bush here... (not that I tend to anyway) why did I tune into BB all those years ago? It was new, there were people being watched in a house 24/7 and the coverage was cool, fresh and exciting. They had to play Judas and kick each other out of a gameshow competition to win a huge amount of money for sunbathing and being boring. I loved it!
What do I tune in for now? Answer: to smile to myself that I'm not as sad as some other people and to smugly congratulate myself that my mental breakdown asn't infront of millions of veiwers. In short... carcrash telly at its best with three presenters with very specific roles in shows targetting and aimed at varying audiences of varying ages groups. Possible replacements could realistically be Davina: Michael Parkinson? Dermot: Brian Dowling? Russel: Paul O'Grady? |
