| Post subject: | NTL to offer Big Brother coverage on Web |
netimperitive 18-05-2006 11:18 AM Internet service providers NTL, Telewest and Virgin.net are to offer customers online video clips from the Big Brother 7 house this summer. The deal, with Channel 4 New Media, marks the the first content deal to span all three NTL owned ISPs since the cable company merged with Telewest earlier this year. The service will feature daily news stories and video clip highlights from the house via the ntlworld.com, blueyonder.co.uk and Virgin.net websites. There will also be contestant biographies, photos, plus an exclusive column written by Derek Laud, a former contestant from from Big Brother 6. NTL customers with a 4Mb or 10Mb connection will also have access to a free, live 24/7 feed from the house, as part of their broadband plus package -only otherwise available on the Channel 4 website for a fee of £7.99. Philip Snalune, managing director consumer products at NTL, said: "It's the first time that we've run content across NTL, Telewest and Virgin.net sites and with over eight million combined unique users a month we'll be looking to capitalise on this going forward." Big Brother 7 coverage will be available on: http://www.ntlworld.com/bigbrother, http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/bigbrother and http://www.virgin.net/bigbrother7 from Thursday 18 May. |

So I checked the BlueYonder one - 'cos that's what I'm subscribed to - and what a p*ss poor effort it is! One story copied from elsewhere, no info on how to get the streaming, very poor show... |

If you are going to use NTL's broadband plus service be careful if you have to enter your credit card details. The payment pages show a verisign logo suggesting the page is secure, however NTL have linked to the page using http and not https (the secure version). I have tried reporting this to NTL with 4 phone calls last week (as it is saimply an error in the linking to the page, which can easily be fixed), however NTL say it is not a customer service problem but a customer complaint so if I want it fixed I must put it in writing. Hardly the attitude to take and as it is not a complaint just me advising that they have a tiny problem that they should let their web coding team know about, they have taken the attitude that it is not there problem. I have tried reporting the problem 4 times now but each time NTL's staff have basically said "we dont really care". I wouldnt normally use a forum like this to post a message like this, but just feel as NTL do not seem to want to protect their customers details, the least I can do is make potential users of the service aware that they could be entering their details over a non secure connection. If you are asked to enter your credit card details on NTL's broadband plus service check that the web address starts https:// and not http:// (note the s), if not just type the s in yourself. |
