There is a female contestant on the latest Big Brother who says that when she gets bored, she just goes and looks in the mirror. There's another woman on the show who declares, as if boasting about the best entry on her CV: "I've got such a cute bum. I just love getting my bum out."

Meanwhile, right at the other end of the intellectual spectrum, there is a beautiful young woman I know who has just qualified as a doctor. In a candid moment, she admits that all day, every day, right through her training, if she wasn't studying she was thinking about her body shape. "It's my continual obsession. I worry about whether I'm looking good as often as adolescent boys are supposed to think about sex - like every couple of minutes."

Full, long feature in the Herald

It's crap, all that sort of stuff, and far too prevalent. Reminds me of the early 70's (not that I was around then, of course  ). Thought all that pathetic nonsense has disappeared. Sadly not.

Thankfully there are still some real women - and men - around.

I'm afraid I fit into the ''thinking about my figure as much as men think about sex'' category but worse still I don't do enough about it :-?

I honestly feel like I would be so much happier if I was thin  and on the whole I am a well rounded (little too rounded ::lol:: ) individual with a great sense of fun. I just want to be well rounded and thin :D

Yeah but no but....

It's natural for lots of us to wish for good looks, or a better figure, and in some cases, cosmetic surgery can make a tremendous difference to someone's self-esteem, but this 'I'm going to get a boob job for my 21st birthday' phenomenon is ridiculous. As for people judging others solely on their looks...
