Big Brother lost 300,000 viewers this year, figures have shown, making it the most unpopular series ever.

The latest instalment of the flagship Channel 4 show, which comes to an end on Friday night, has been seen by an average of 3.2 million viewers, compared with 3.5 million last year.

It has attracted a 15.8% share of TV viewers, compared with 17% in 2007 for the series won by 20-year-old data entry clerk Brian Belo.

A shame really since it has been the best BB series for a few years. I think this is mainly because they went for a wide range of believably realistic characters, rather than any old bunch of oddballs or freaks.

It is a shame, because I agree it has been the best series for ages. The housemates were good and some of the Tasks were really good. I also liked the idea of the jail and the fact that they had to give up tokens to get luxuries. I liked the theme of funny and nasty.

I thought the jail was a farce. Hardly serious punishment for rule-breaking...being made to go to the naughty corner for a few hours - complete with 'comfort breaks'. The damage was done when they discussed nominations; far better to stick to not allowing them to nominate - but BB would have to be consistent - not it's strongest point.

The tasks were quite good this year, yes.

But no matter how good the Housemates or the tasks, BB is extremely unlikely NOT to lose viewers, as each year goes on, if it sticks to basically the same format - a dozen or so people confined to one building, for three months.

The biggest 'shock' this year was Nicole entering the house. And to be fair, that was one of the high points - how many of us could have guessed that when the princess got to be with Rex, they'd end up bickering so much?

But 5 years ago, a Housemate got to travel to South Africa.

Had I been the Executive Producer (or whoever it is who decides things), I'd have radically changed BB, so that it was barely recognisable from the original. True, the fabled 'hardcore fans' might have complained that it just wasn't the same, but at least it wouldn't result in the current situation, whereby each year, we have a very similar show, but with declining viewing figures.

One thing that I find annoying is the way that the Housemates can mostly predict how things will be...'new Housemates', 'a divide or a secret room', 'appearances on BBLB' etc etc.

I'd love to have heard BB announce 'Housemates, you have 30 minutes to pack your bags - you're all going out of the house for a week'.

I wouldn't have watched it, had it not been for the Rex/Rachel/Mikey thing. Rex got me mad, I wanted to see him get his comeuppance, (but like Grace Dent, I never did get to witness that moment), and I relied on Mikey to be the whistle-blower.

The tasks this year were vastly improved on the last couple of BB series - I liked the game show element that was brought in, and the impersonation task was great. I like your idea of taking them all somewhere else for a week though GG, really the producers of BB need to think the sky is the limit for this programme instead of staying within existing bounds. I do think they started to do this a little bit this year - let's hope they build on it for the next series.

Yes, I think everything does need to be drastically changed, so that the housemates are no longer in the 'know'. They are all too wise these days and it spoils it a bit. At least they were caught very unawares of the double eviction on Tuesday, although it did seem a bit cruel.

I'm gonna disagree that this year has been good, I found it a bit dull to be honest

having said that the HMs are nicer and more like the halcyon days of BB1 to BB4
