Oh 'Ell It's Adele!Day 42
BB's Adele talks about the Heaven and Hell divide...In 2002, Adele Roberts was the feisty housemate who spent time on both the rich and poor sides of the Big Brother 3 House. She knows better than most what the Big Brother 9 housemates are going through, so what advice could she give them? We caught up with Adele to find out who she likes, who she hates and how the housemates can survive life in Hell...
BB: What was it like when Big Brother divided you and your fellow housemates into rich and poor sides?A: It was really shocking, because they'd never done that before in Big Brother. I found it quite funny and I tried not to get annoyed about it, but the people on the poor side absolutely do your head in. It changes the mood of the House completely. The people in Hell will be winding each other up, going "I'm really hungry...". They would've really hated the potato peeling task. The rich side really rub your faces in it as well.
BB: You experienced both sides - how different did you find them?A: In the House you really feel the difference. You really appreciate Heaven and you eat as much as you can, you drink as much as you can, you lie on the lovely sofas as much as you can... The Heaven side will get on because they're all happy, but the Hell side will grow to hate each other. They might be getting on at the moment, but I reckon there will be fights.
BB: Do you think that the divide will have a permanent effect on the dynamic of the House?A: Even if the House is reunited, I think it will be hard for them to interact properly after this. When I was in the House we only had ourselves to blame if we were put in the poor side, but this time everyone's got Darnell to hate or thank. Whether he did it intentionally or not, Darnell's chosen all his friends to join him in Heaven, and the housemates from Hell will hate him with a passion for that.
Most people in the House seem to think he's a game-player. They probably think he's put certain people in Hell because he sees them as his biggest competition. Those housemates will get back at him, whether they do it through nominations or in some other way.
BB: Who do you like and dislike in the House?A: I don't really like Rex. I think he'd wind me up. He's always whingeing and saying he's going to leave, but it's like, you're not gonna leave, are you? He's ungrateful to be in the House.
Kat used to be my favourite, but Lisa is comedy gold! I love her. People take her the wrong way - they think about what she would be like in the real world, but it's not about that. In the House she's the best for entertainment and one-liners. My favourite bit was when Mario was getting evicted and Lisa said, "The universe is calling Mario to leave the House." That really made me laugh.
BB: What would you do differently if you did Big Brother now?A: I think I'd be cleverer about it. I wouldn't whinge so much. You've got to learn to get on with people you wouldn't normally talk to - I know that now. If I could give the housemates advice, I'd tell them to try as much as they can not to be affected by the Heaven and Hell divide. Small things seem massive in the House, but they should try to grin and bear it. [laughs] They won't be able to though!
