Oh my, finally an institution is taking a stand against the inept use of the English language. I have little doubt this is primarily due to people....like, err...like...Dale.

see: Full story - digg.com

Calrissian: Likes Chocolate, because err...he err, likes it, its like nice.

Would anyone employ Dale in a teaching capacity speaking the way he does?

Does he also think in that way in his brain? What I mean is, is his brain caught up in a loop of Likes and umms and that’s why he adopts that strange head down sneering look all the time, indeed does he also write in that way.

Actually its interesting how Dale gets his points across, the listeners seem to know what he wants to say although he rarely ever ends his sentence. Or is that just frustration on their part waiting for what indeed is a predictable comment.

On the scale of annoying bastardisationsof of speech as a communication it isn’t as bad as the dreaded QI, question intonation, where the afflicted ends all sentences in a tone that makes it sound like they are asking a question and thus renders any intonation which is a massive part of speech communication useless. I must say when I come across anyone with that issue I do treat everything they say as a question, they never get the point but it makes me feel better.

Although Sara is also guilty of this, but she can't help it, it's cultural. However, I suppose you could say that it's part of the UK culture, with Neighbours having been staple telly for children (and those of us that are a little older) for the last 20 years. :-?

I've mentioned the QI thing here before, a couple of years ago.

One family member does it. I don't know why. It's NOT 'affected' - it's just the way she speaks, when she's telling you a story. 'I was going down the road? And I saw the bus coming? And because it was raining? I decided to get the bus to the shops?'. I find it terribly annoying, but when I questioned 'it' at first, the child (as she was then) was quite hurt, and I could tell my criticism was denting her confidence. While one would love perfection in speech and diction, etc, it's a lot more important to keep the lines of communication open between a teenager and a parent. One must compromise, and be grateful for small mercies.

Worryingly, Dale has never had ANY job in his entire life... not unless you count spinning some records for his mates.

In the near future some school aged paper-boy or weekend shop girl is going to be taught by someone with no real life experience but probably read all about the world of work in a book somewhere.

Has he definitely not got any work experience even? Like working with a local youth group or whatever? They must really have needed to fill spaces if so....

I think this is the course he's doing, Jezi, not a traditional 'teacher-training programme', as such:

Ah ha, thanks GG. I watched the entry videos for the first time the other evening (missed the opening night show, was interesting watching them now!) and it sounded like his degree was in PE teaching or something. From that looks like there are lots of things he could do from it.

Bit of a non starter for a career when he says he doesn't want to teach anyway!

^^^^ ::lol:: ::lol:: Although I always thought Mario had a bit of Gordon Brittas in him.

Brian Belo's on BBLB at the moment - suddenly Dale seems to be quite articulate.

And more: Brian Belo's on BBLB at the moment - suddenly Spiral seems quite accomplished, in the singing department. :-?

I did warn you all a couple of weeks back... fortunately BBLB cut it off early. His song starts bad and goes down hill the more it goes on.
