I wish I'd kept my collection of 'Cosmopolitans' from the 1980's (I held on to them for over a decade, but they got flung out when we moved house). It'd be a revelation to my daughters to see that back then, a so-called 'raunchy' magazine had such a focus on how women could become more happy and successful, through nurturing their own self-esteem, advancing their careers, furthering their education (every month there seemed to be a plug for the MBA programme!). Sure, women wanted to look good, and hopefully find a loving partner, but the idea of it becoming almost commonplace, to increase your breasts to attract attention - oh heavens, I thought all 'dolly bird' stuff had ceased in the 1970's. Used to look at mini-skirted, false-eyelashed 'chicks' in images from the 1960's, and think 'oh, the bad old days'... Yes, I know, I'm showing my age, now....but this gets me so mad, the way girls and women are portrayed in the media - especially music videos!  It's a long way from the days of bra-burning.
