What do you think about the sound blocks?
They should have them.
They should have them only for protection of HM's/ads
They should not have them
They don't seem to know when to block stuff

BB came on 12;15 ish.. it was sound blocked for ages.

Early this morning ( about 2 am..)

The housemate were talking about childhood and brought up Hi Tech, nike addidas etc... and it got thru unblocked. PJ even mentioned his mates name all unblocked!

When the conversation was over BB blocked sound

Later on Kate and jade were gabbing . Kate asked Jade where she lived, Jade told here exactly..well almost where she lived.

You have to remember that its not just the HM's private lives they have to protect, if they start talking about a mate and where they live , where they work or what they have been up to, that also has to be censored as the third person has their own right to privacy and C4 have to cover their asses and make sure that ALL people are being protected and that no one has a case to sue them for slander or loss of privicy.

Just think, in a normal conversation over a drink with a mate of yours how many times would you mention what a third person is doing, give details of your work, gossip about a rumor you heard....
I know that if you took all that out of a boozy night that I had had, you would have some major sound gaps.

I know its annoying as, I swear and shout at the TV as much as anyone (did I just admit to talking to the TV?) but it is being done for a reason, and a good one at that.

Can't add to that. I agree wholeheartedly... even if it is damned annoying!

I completely disagree with this idea that the sound blocks are for protection of everybody. It's yet another sad concession to this system we live in where "the law" is given more credence than common sense or the notion of what's "reasonable".

Some specifics (people's addresses and phone numbers, for example) are understandably banned from broadcast, but if a HM has an OPINION on a particular issue/person/company or is merely relating a story about these, then who has any problem ??

We all know the nature of "everyday conversation". We expect to hear people mentioned, expect to hear bands/films/companies/govenments criticised (or praised), expect to hear people's opinions. In fact we WANT to hear others' opinions - it's what gives us all a broader view on the world and current issues. What kind of world is this where we simply go along with some misguided notion that censoring people's opinions somehow is for "protection".

If someone believes that certain companies profit from third-world exploitation, for example, let them share the information. Then there can be discussion and information sharing and (among other things) education.

I daresay most of the BB3 sound dropouts are far less provocative topics anyway.

Keep it real I say.

Does Jade actually remember where she lives then...?????????????

I've said this numerous times but im gonna say it again cos I think its a bloody good idea :

Maybe E4 could have implemented some kind of protection system where a PIN code could be put in to allow access thus preventing people that dont wanna hear them swearing etc coming across it by accident and stopping kids from watching it! I'm sure this is me living in a fantasy world but I cant imagine its that difficult they do it with the adult channels on sky *not that I'd know about that*

As for censoring when they say controversial stuff all they really need to do is stick a banner up saying "the housemates views are in no way endorsed by E4" or whatever.... This would save a lot of annoyed people cos its really pisses me off when the sound goes off for minutes at a time!!!

Then all they'd need to cut out would be the bits where they mention names places etc.

What I dont get though is we know theres a time difference to allow for the censoring why cant they just beep out the swear words - and silence the controversial / personal stuff surely its not that difficult to do in the few minutes they have between stuff happening and going to air?!

Agreed, Obo.

Surely they can just beep out the word "McDonalds" or "Bush" or "Nike" or "Kylie" or whatever, and leave the conversation still intact.

It would be like watching Jerry Springer then and that is the most annoing thing ever....you can tell what they are saying from the context of what they say before and afterwars and you end up having no sentance with out a few hundred beeps....I would prefer silence.

Just my opinion.

AGREED.... silence is golden, the beeping idea is crap but surely they can silence out simple words rather than whole minutes at a time...
