How come you're not allowed Niki?

Because when the footie was on, taxi drivers were not allowed to have their flag up, failing to abide by these rules meant arrest, and I was not allowed it at work. Its because some of the other religions do not like it. fair enough, but if it's OK for them to have thier flags up in England, why should we not have ours up, it's still England, if foreigners don't like it, they know what they can do in my opinion. Better not get started on this one, i was furious when it happened. It's our heritage FGS!!!!! We accept every other religion and country, so why can't we be proud to be British? I feel like writing to Blair on this one!!!!!

Adrian, He's got himself in a lot of doo doo, so i don't think that he will be standing as prime minister for much longer. That man makes my skin crawl. If he got me for racism just for saying i wanna put my flag up, i'll sue him for deformation of charactor, and i'd win. Blair has lost a lot of respect and once someone else is voted in, hopefully everything will change for the better.

Lyns, it doesn't stop us putting our flags up, the pubs get full, the gherkins (ghurka's) who come in our local love the english and they fly our flag for us!!!!!

Isnt the irish BB, just the same, except produced by an independant Irish channel, and therefor an Irish production?
It would be like S4C doing their own version surely?

We're talking about the George Cross here NOT the Union Jack.

Some time ago the George Cross was adopted by the National Front (& other parties) and various football supporters and, because of their views the flag (unfortunately) came to be associated with all things xenophobic and racist. The Jublilee amongst other recent national events (some joyful, some tragic) brought the flag back in popularity but understandably some people still regard it with deep fear and suspicion.

A perfect example of this would be the campaign for take down the union jack at the jubilee. This was started by Billy Bragg, for promotion of his single "take down the union Jack" I fronted the online campaign for this and even the record lable knew we had to tread very carefully as the national front tried everything to hijack the campaign for their own purposes. To riot and demonstrate, I had to deal with a lot of trouble during that time, and it was all people trying to take the St George Cross flag to mean racsism.

Thats it Alex.

And george, no link but it's true. Its typical you wouldn't believe it anyway.

Religion wise, some religions didn't like it

anyway, thats my opinion, no-one said you had to have the same opinion, believe what you want and leave me to believe what i want.

some people need to learn that not all 'the english' are the same. Theres always soemthing that spoils it for everyone else. It's like football hooliganism, the hooligans spoilt it for all those who wanted to watch the game in peace.

ok this "its my opinion im entitled to it " is fair enough , but if you print something , get asked for back up for it , and cant do it ... that defence no longer works ... for instance ... are you saying its "your opinion" that the flags were banned or are you saying it actually happened?

"Religion wise, some religions didn't like it " again , is this "your opinion" or are you saying its fact?

"And george, no link but it's true. Its typical you wouldn't believe it anyway. " sooo sorry if i dont blindly believe everything that people write on a forum

.....i did hear various press/radio reports, of the sort of thing you mention Nicki.
From what i remember, it was various "loony-left",councils and councillors, who objected to flags flying.
(Though curiously, muslim/jewish festivals and celebrations have never been targeted, in the same way.)
Tower Hamlets, and Oldham (2 racial tinderboxes - where councillors only serve their own interests and not the people who elected them), immediately spring to mind. :-?

Mud sticks, and people such as the national front who use the goeorge cross as their symbol have destroyed the image of the flag, and that is the reason many places dont approve of that flag being used.
At the end of the day, we are all part of the united kingdom and there is not ONE true briton left on this isle, the spanish, celts, vickings, Normans, Romans and how ever many other races invaded this little Island make us the most racialy diverce people IMO. Our blood lines do not show us as 100% English. We are as English as 100 generation gap Africans would be given the time spans. And as far as religion goes, Christianity is the oppressive religion that wiped out the indiginous religions and people of this country.

We should accept oursleves as Unitied people and forget the divides in my opinion.

that could be seen as an argument to getting rid of flags ... since flags by their very nature highlight divisions ( from country to country )
