we went thru the cancer thing with our Shepard, in 2001. she was looking very sickly so we started treating her for symptoms, and she perked up. eventually we got xrays and the diagnosis, but since she was still responding to steroids, we kept treating her and spoiling her big time!

eventually, she started to go downhill fast, and we had to decide what to do. we figured we could prolong it, with more steroids, but decided that the ups and downs were not good for her. we scheduled the euthenasia, and the night before, we bbq's, and she had her own sirloin steak and baked potato, and we at with her, sitting on the floor. she may have felt that odd, but wasn't going to complain about the meal!

the vet came to our home, and we both hugged and held her to comfort her in her last minutes. some may think that odd, and the vet worried that we would have a hard time knowing she died in the living room, but we still to this day are grateful that he was willing to work with us, and since she was so afraid of the vet's office, knew that she was in the most comfortable place when she left us

her ashes still sit on the curio shelf, with one of her favorite cookes. she will never be forgotten, but it's still nice to have part of her with us.

as far as Dust Mop, the cat, he's still healthy looking. we're waiting for a specialized blood test result from the Univ of Michigan Animal Health Diagnostics Lab to confirm if he has diabetes, or acromegaly. either way, we will continue to treat him until he no long seems to enjoy life, at which time we will make the difficult but best decision for him.

if you are interested, there is a picture of my pets on Jokersupdates.com

go to the forums section, then the Animal House forum. look for a thread titled "FP, how is Dust Mop doing" and scroll down. the pic is in there

thanks for your support. this is hard, but he's worth fighting for.

Hi FP -Just seen the photos, how lovely,,, One of my cats is black & white like Stache - mines called Clarence... B/W cats have attitude don't you find :D ..

Wishing you well with the results you are awaiting.

Your story about dog brought a tear to my eye...Its 7 years since we lost our dog to cancer and she is buried in the garden and I can still cry over her to this day...But it does ease with time...

Take care FP
