I agree Michelle. There are more genuine than not, and many do not get the benefits they are entitled to because, as Bren said, they do not know the system. It is difficult enough to claim benefits especially with all the forms/red tape etc.
I teach adults Basic skills, many of them have mild to moderate learning difficulties, including Dyslexia which was never diagnosed when they were at school. They find the forms nearly impossible to complete, never mind understanding what they might be entitled to.
Unfortunately, people such as those on 'Wife Swap' make the word 'scroungers' rear it's ugly head again in the public's mind and people will class all those on benefits as the same. I thought we got rid of this when the Torys went. (Look at the unemployment figures compared to 10 years ago).
