I've watched this with my 16 year old and my mother has watched this with my 18 year old (I'm dead young really ::lol:: ) and my kids are saying that is NOT indicative of "mainstream" 18 year olds.

Speaking as an "almost 18 year old", it's not.
I didn't expect them to be though to be honest. I think Caroline's the closest to being normal!

I swear a lot, I have temper tantrums, I bitch about people I don't like, I'm lazy, and I moan! I never have screaming fits though, I'm uncomfortable talking about sex in front of my friends, let alone national TV, and I certainly wouldn't brag about things like that. I'd like to think that I'm slightly more mature than that lot! Obviously, the programme has been heavily edited, but I've not heard them have one intelligent conversation.

Basically, what I'm trying to say (in a really long-winded way), is that a lot of 18 year olds aren't like that at all. To go on Big Brother, you have to be a certain type of person, so there's always going to be a few groups of people that will never be represented on Big Brother.
I imagine a few of them aren't that extreme in real life either, and are playing up to the cameras slightly. I should hope that they are anyway, as I'd find it unbearable to be friends with someone like Paul or Tracey.

Go to bed nicki..... ::lol::

I understand were you are coming from Nicki, I know a lot of 18 year olds who don't behave as such, I think these teenagers seem a lot younger than most, the programme reminds of kids at a school trip.

We also have to remind ourselves that what we are seeing from the programme is what Big Brother wants us to see and the contestants picked as mentioned before are sterotypical of what an audience (thats what BB think not all the people of UK) expects to see from that class or region of where a person comes from. I am not a soap fan but I did see the programme about Eastenders of C4 earlier this week and they said that they pick stereotypical characters in the programme to help the mass relate to the characters in the soap, I think BB has done the same, most have seen those programmes about teenagers going wild abroad and I think they have tried to do that here because that is what they believe the audience expects.

I have worked with many teenagers from different backgrounds. So I know what is seen on the TV is not reflective of the those that I have met.

The scarey thing is that there is a distinct possibility that it may well be indicative of the mainstream.

PS - Congratulations on your 7000 plus posts.

The teen H/M's are the twins of the groups we have hanging around my area ( on occasions ) - loud, dont care what they say, rude...But agree most youths are not like that. - THANK GOODNESS...

Congratulations Scotslass :) :) :)

I think like any age group, there are plenty who behave like this, and just as many who don't ...

Congratulations Lyns!!!!!! Yay!!!!

Well, speaking as someone who works at a College, there is a heavy drugs problem (as in many colleges), so all the 18 year olds I see on a daily basis are spaced out ::lol::

I must say that these lot seem way, way to immature to be 18, and to 'do it' on telly shows just how irresponsible they are. I missed it last night, but I hope they were responsible enough to use protection, because if BB were screening that, they need to promote safe sex.

They did not use contraception. BB issued the girl with the morning after pill, they did not show this though apparently because of medical confidentiality.

I also have two teenagers (13 and 16) and the 13 year old would not behave in the same way as they do .. as for the 16 year old, she can't believe them, but then she is 16 going on 60 !! ::lol::

I hope that isn't what most 18 years are like or I don't want to get there!

They could all just be playing up for the cameras though.

No don't worry Jezi. Not all 18 year olds are like that....the same way not all adults are like contestants on regular Big Brother.
