Norwegian contestant Kurt Nilsen, 25, Won the first World Idol.

He beat American Idol Kelly Clarkson, 21, who was favourite to win.

The Scandinavian saw off competition from from Britain's own Will Young.

Young was never in the hunt as Kurt and Kelly vied neck-and-neck during voting.

Did you see Kelly's face during this, she really couldn't believe it as the votes came in. She was as convinced that she would win as many others were.

I thought she was great, but nearly all countries (including ours) voted for Kurt. That's fairly overwhelming.

He was really good though. I don't know many people who could pull off a U2 song so well. And it's nice to see that everyone is sick of pretty people winning all the time (not saying that kelly was just a pretty face though)...they started Pop Idol saying that the public should vote for an all round Pop Idol and not just a good singer. I like it that at last the majority of people have realised that it's talent that counts and not looks.

I agree with your post, but when you think of pop/world idol I would like something nice to look at :oops:

very shallow I know, but I thought it was about the all round idol bit ?

I would have liked Kelly or Will to have won

I just like it that the majority of the public had the power and the sense to turn a show into something other than it was intended...and for the better IMO
