Just finnished the da vinci code by Dan Brown.
A bit of an eye opener. Ron Howard has just got the rights to make the film.
i've never read a thriller and got a free lesson in art history chucked in as a bonus

Hello Simon :D

I started reading this book but didn't get past the first couple of chapters. Didn't like the style of writing. I'd like to know what happened though!

Am I right in thinking it's one of those religious conspiracy books, where there's a Big Secret that has been suppressed by the Church for centuries and only a few people have ever known?

It follows the lines of a religious cospiracy. The bit i found really interesting was about the hidden images and messages in Da vinici's art.
Even though he worked for the church he didn't live life how the church would want.
In a way to rebel he would play with the images in his pictures.

As far as the religious conspiracy goes. Da Vinci was a member of The Priory of Sion which was tied in with Knights Templar. These are facts.

The whole thing about the Holy Grail maybe crap but it made good reading

Hmmm.. Mary Magdalene is the person beside Jesus in the Last Supper? Their figures make the letter M? They were married? is that the big mystery?

Should have finished the book, shouldn't I ::lol::

I am reading this at the moment and it is excellent. Claire you should try and get past the first few chapters. I found it hard to get into to start but am struggling to leave it down apart from when I am watching BB.

Yes this is a good book, maybe you should give it another go Claire. :D

It certainly throws a whole new light on Da Vinci's paintings.

Guess I'm going to have to read it. It sounds like something I would quite enjoy.

Actually, i DID go back to it a few weeks later. Still think it's badly written, with cardboard characters, a ridiculous plot and very shaky historical research....but I quite enjoyed it

Grimfandango, I've bought several books from GreenMetropolis.com. Thanks for the tip :D

I just thought it was a real page turner. I didn't really get into the characters but saw that they were pretty one-dimensional. It was the plot that got me. I don't even like detective books much, but I just loved all the background stuff about art and the church etc. I amy have been a bit biased because I was in Paris for the weekend and read most of it then.

I really enjoyed this! The parts about Art History were so fascinating, I couldn't put it down.

I am intrigued that the Catholic church has banned catholics from reading this book - it is meant to be fiction after all..... what is the problem?

My mum is catholic and I told her about it - she said 'oh they are always saying don't read this or that, but it just makes everyone read it all the more' ::lol::

Found with angels and demons he was labouring the point too much towards the end....God vs faith vs science and the twists became too elaborate for my poor brain.Very clever and well researched stuff nonetheless and will probably get a few viewers for the papal elections in the forthcoming weeks.
