Reality TV is turn off for viewers

Viewers are sick of endless reality TV shows, according to a new study.

Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! have spawned a host of copycat programmes as broadcasters chase ratings.

But audiences want original and innovative programming and believe there are too many reality and celebrity shows filling the schedules.

The findings are contained in a report by new media regulator Ofcom.

I agree that there's too many rip-offs and imitations now. Nice to see that they state BB has spawned copycats therefore distancing the ground-breakers from the rest.

Haven't read the article but agree in principle with the idea that people are fed up with so many reality shows. I watch Big Brother (or at least some of it) once a year and did watch some of the original Pop Idol but when they keep repeating the formats over and over again it just makes me turn off. I'm bored with all the make over programmes too and all the soaps with the ludicrous story lines - all trying to out do each other. And don't even get me started on the hundred best whatevers! I'm really quite selective in my viewing these days - I do have my favourites like West Wing and ER (sorry American I know) but I think my tv is used more for watching dvds and videos these days. What does happen is that I often miss things because the TV just isn't on and if I haven't had time to study the programme guide I only find out it was on after the event because someone talks about it - then I just have to hope for a repeat - ever noticed they don't repeat the thing you really want to watch but repeat other things ad nauseum!

Enough being serious for one night :D

But then that's like saying BB is a rid off. Driving School was technically the first reality TV show in the UK, could have been one before that.

I like some of the shows but not all.

I like I'm A Celebrity and I liked The Games. I'm not really into Pop Idol or whatever.

I was thinking the same Suzanne, a lot of people at work seem to think it was boring but that's the secular world for you! I think there's gonna be a dramatic difference between BB4 and BB5
