Entrepreneur Alan Sugar will put 14 apprentices through their paces as the host of a new BBC TV show.

Mr Sugar, worth a reported £703m (€1.03bn), will test the group’s business acumen and entrepreneurial skills on The Apprentice.

The BBC2 show, based on a hit US reality-TV series of the same name, will see a contender fired each week as they compete for £100,000 (€147,912) salary and a year-long job at one of Sugar’s companies.

The candidates will face weekly assignments and “the longest and most gruelling interview of their lives”.

Today the “East End boy made good” said he was “delighted” to join The Apprentice, which will be broadcast next year.

“It sits perfectly with my long held belief in the importance of promoting enterprise,” he said.

Sir Alan, 57, the largest individual shareholder in Tottenham Hotspur, Amstrad Chairman and owner of computer company Viglen, said: “My philosophy has always been to work hard, be honest, be frank, be credible and always learn from your mistakes.

“My good news/bad news approach to business has earned me a reputation for being blunt but you’ve got to have what it takes to make it in business.”

Co producer Peter Moore said: “This is a series that tests entrepreneurial skills and rewards the winner with a fantastic job, at the same time acknowledging the British sensibility towards naked ambition and the accumulation of wealth.”

NICOLE and Natalie Appleton are in talks with MTV over an Osbournes-style show to relaunch their music career.

The former All Saints would be filmed in their homes.

Nicole, 29, lives with Liam Gallagher while Natalie, 31, is married to The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett.

FREED farmer Tony Martin has signed up for a new Channel 4 show called The Countryside Sucks.
The 59-year-old — jailed for shooting a burglar dead at his Norfolk home — will reveal what he hates about country living.

An insider said: “Tony will rip apart the fantasy most people have of leaving the city and going to the countryside. He makes it clear that it’s not an idyllic life.” The show is part of a new series called Made In Britain.

Dr. Love's Super Baby Making Show

Ten couples from around the world could compete in a reality TV show in Singapore to see who can procreate first, the city-state's self-styled sex guru said Thursday.

"We've not started the recruitment, but people have heard about it," said Wei Siang Yu. "The main prize is the baby, of course."

Wei said he hopes the show, "Dr. Love's Super Baby Making Show," will be beamed across the world and shown locally by MediaCorp, the government-owned national broadcaster, later this year.

Meet the Neighbours
Families who are pillars of their community and broods of real life Wayne and Waynetta Slobs will have to learn to live together in harmony for a new Channel 4 reality show from the makers of Wife Swap.

Channel 4 is looking for five families from diverse social and geographical backgrounds to live together for four weeks this summer in a purpose-built community in the south west for the show, which has a working title Meet the Neighbours.

Each household in the five-family community will be provided with expert advice to help them get along with their neighbours, no matter how wide the apparent divide between the lifestyles of different clans on the show.

Channel 4 has ordered a four-part run of the 60-minute show from independent producer RDF media, the company behind reality hits including Wife Swap and Faking It.

"We are looking for families who would all normally stand out in their local community. They could be people who like to play loud music all night, have lots of pets about the place, or Neighbourhood Watch fans and upstanding members of local society," an RDF spokeswoman said.

"They will be sent off to live in this purpose-built community together for four weeks to see if, with the help of experts and a new situation, they can learn to get on. The families will have to work together and run the community."

The series producer, Jamie Simpson, said: "This new series will be a fascinating exploration and insight into the complex dynamics and relationships of an entire community."

Meet the Neighbours has been commissioned by the Channel 4 head of factual entertainment, Julian Bellamy, and will be executive produced by the RDF director of programmes, Stephen Lambert.

RDF has just this week secured a £7.5m order from ABC for 20 hours of the US version of its hit reality show Wife Swap.

Channel 4 has been forced to defend its next major reality TV show Bollywood Star after a leading journalist said the programme would damage the image of the Asian film industry.
Asjad Nazir, the showbiz editor of the London-based Eastern Eye newspaper has attacked the show - a Pop Idol style contest which will see participants compete for a place in a Bollywood movie - for failing to take Asian culture seriously.

"It's a slap in the face for the Asian film industry. It could damage the image of Bollywood and Asian culture," Nazir said.

"The fact is when you go on Pop Idol, all the people on the judging panel are related to the music industry. In this case the closest these people have been to a Bollywood film set is the local video shop."

Nazir also claims Karan Johar, the producer of some of Bollywood's biggest hit movies, had pulled out of the show "because of the level of the judges".

The first episode of the show, which was commissioned by Heather Rabbatts, the head of 4 Learning, will be broadcast on Tuesday at 9pm and will chart the progress of 1,000 wannabe film stars through the audition process and the progress of the finalists on to Bollywood itself.

The judges include musician Bally Sagoo, Radio 1 DJ Bobby Friction, award-winning choreographer Honey Kalaria and star of West End musical Bombay Dreams Sophiya Haque.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 denied that Mr Johar pulled out due to concerns over the quality of the judges and had been replaced in the Indian stage of the contest by a director of equal status.

"He had to pull out because of a severe family illness. It happened early on in the production and did not affect any of the contestants.

"He [Nazir] should watch the programme first and then criticise the show with an informed view. The show is about being Asian and is more like Operatunity than Pop Idol. The judges all have fantastic backgrounds, they have all been part of Bollywood," the spokeswoman said.

Richard McKerrow, the executive producer of Bollywood Star, said Nazir's attacks stemmed from his disappointment that he was not asked to be a judge.

"I don't know what he's got against the show - the panel does have Bollywood experience. Other Asian media have been backing this and have been really supportive.

"We were really trying to make a documentary about the British Asian experience and how the contestants might feel Asian in Britain and British when they finally get to Asia."

Prolific TV producer David E. Kelley, who has been one of the most outspoken opponents of reality programming, is venturing into the unscripted arena with a series for NBC.

Sources say the network has given an eight-episode order to the series, which will feature contestants with law degrees competing for a partner position at a law firm, giving the show some similarities to Kelley's recently ended ABC legal drama "The Practice."

The project was originally set up at CBS. When the network passed on it, NBC quickly jumped on after meeting with Kelley, an attorney by training.

The premise of the series is similar to "The Partner," a reality show set to premiere in November on Fox. Fox declined to comment on the Kelley project Tuesday, and NBC didn't return calls seeking comment.
