SINGER Belinda Carlisle last night became the first celebrity chef to be voted out of Hell's Kitchen.

The Go-Gos singer burst into tears when host Angus Deayton broke the news.

The 45-year-old said afterwards: 'It's a relief I get to go home but Gordon's shouting didn't bother me.

'But it was a really good experience for me. I love to cook but not on this level, and I learnt a lot.'

Earlier, Amanda Barrie quit after lashing out at boss Gordon Ramsay.

The former Coronation Street actress told the fiery Scots chef she wanted to leave because he drove her 'out of control'.

The previous night, Amanda, 68, had tried to slap Ramsay during a row but he grabbed her wrist. She told him yesterday: 'I'm obviously not in control of myself when I'm around you.

'I'm either in tears or taking a whack at you.'

Ramsay said jokingly: 'Can I say it was a bloody good shot.'

But Amanda, who stars in Bad Girls, insisted she wanted to go home and watch the show while enjoying a bottle of champagne and fish and chips.

The remaining contestants include Abi Titmuss and former Tory health minister Edwina Currie.

Still cooking are former Brookside actress Jennifer Ellison, Gimme Gimme Gimme's James Dreyfus and Pub Landlord comedian Al Murray.

TV crimebuster Roger Cook left the show injured and his replacement, DJ Tommy Vance, walked out with athlete Dwain Chambers.

Ingram: Cough joke

Ingram served cough sweet by Hell's cooks
by Jonathan Donald
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? cheat Charles Ingram tried to look tickled as he was served a cough sweet by the Hell's Kitchen team last night.

To rib him about the coughing scam he was convicted of last year, they sent him a crouton and goats cheese canape adorned with a Strepsil.

Al Murray had spotted Ingram and his wife Diana in the dining room and suggested the idea to Gordon Ramsay. "There's the coughing major," he said. "Let's send him some Benilyn."

The couple tried to put on a brave face on the joke. They laughed and Diana gave Ramsay the thumbs up.

The Ingrams were not the only diners to endure embarrassment in the ITV1 show.

Big Brother star Jade Goody, who is five months pregnant, tripped on the stairs. She also misread the menu. "I thought the warm salad said worm salad," she confessed.

TV star offered job at Claridges

Hell's Kitchen trainee Jennifer Ellison has been offered the chance to pursue an alternative career - with a job in Claridges.

The singer was told that the door was open at Gordon Ramsay's signature restaurant after winning over chefs and diners with steak and chips.

The celebrities were asked to create their own signature dishes and Ellison's was sold out within 30 minutes of going on the menu.

The former Brookside actress accused Sarge, the head chef at Claridges, of "having a laugh" when he offered her the job.

But the chef, who has been overseeing the celebrities, replied: "No. You could do it easily. You're very good."

Meanwhile, Edwina Currie got a roasting from Ramsay for adding peas to spaghetti lobster when there were no peas on the menu.

The former politician had to redo the order because of her "mistake".

Currie also clashed with Ellison by refusing to lend her cling film, prompting Ellison to mumble: "I hate awkward people".

Guest diners Jerry Springer, James Hewitt and Al Murray's wife all congratulated the team on their dishes.

But former Bros star Matt Goss was stressed out after Ramsay gave his signature dish just one out of ten.

It was last orders for a tearful Abi Titmuss as she became the fifth celebrity voted off ITV1's Hell's Kitchen.

The 28-year-old former girlfriend of John Leslie wiped tears from her eyes as it was announced that she was getting the chop.

She said: "I'm going but I don't want to go. I've been saying it's me all day so I'm not surprised." Earlier she had begged viewers not to vote her out.

Abi was described as "very astute and calculating" by Gordon Ramsay before she was voted off the show.

Gordon, who regularly bawled her out for giggling in the kitchen, added: "She hadn't given her all."

After her exit Abi said: "I like Gordon a lot but he is more jovial in the mornings. The show was physically exhausting and I was put on anti-biotics today. It's great looking back."

Hell's Kitchen maverick Edwina Currie looked totally gobsmacked when Abi was given her marching orders.

Earlier she pleaded with viewers: "I hope it's me, watch my face if it's someone else. I will be very down — I want to go home."

Edwina had had several run-ins with chef Gordon who has called her "diseased", "like a granny that won't die" and "she is a constant pain in the backside".

Ex-Brookside star Jennifer Ellison has emerged as the favourite to win after Gordon sang her praises.

He said: "She is the best cook in the house, she is a complete surprise, nothing is ever under-cooked or over-cooked by her."

Following Abi's exit there are now five chefs left in the show — Ellison, Currie, Al Murray, Matt Goss and James Dreyfus. The winner will be named on Sunday.
