 Absolutely terrified me when i saw it years ago, and those who have watched the film will know what i mean when i mention a certain scene near the end in the bedroom, which has affected my night times since!

They have the book on amazon and apparently there is a play as well. Think i will pick up the book some time because i don't think i could handle watching the film again despite how much i'd like to!

Has anyone here seen this?

Checkit out if you dare!

I've seen this twice in London Stephen. I've never read the book or seen a movie but it is a fantastic play, truly scary with only two people on the stage for most of it. The first time I saw it, I jumped out of my seat. It was truly atmospheric.

Yes I saw the play before I saw the film.
It terrified the life out of me and I was actually in tears in the theatre.
My fear of female ghosts dressed in black comes from Armchair Thriller on Tv when I was a kid. The story was called 'As Quiet as a Nun' where this nun with no face terrorised the children who lived in the convent. I think it brought back my childhood memories of being scared to go to bed or even to the loo by myself.
I was still terrified of it up until about a year ago when I bought a copied tape on ebay and watched the whole 6 episodes and found out that it was just a man dressed up as a nun trying to get his hands on some money!
I have now exorcised my demons as far as the Black Nun goes, but I don't think I would dare go and see The Woman in Black at the theatre again.
For me it was far more scary than the film or the book, but that might be just because I saw the play first. I wasn't expecting it to be so frightening.
I recommend that people go and see it if they can. It's not a lavish production, they use minimal props, but the story-telling is excellent that alot of it comes from your own imagination.
I also recommend a seat on the right hand side(facing the stage) aisle ;)

I've read the book. It scared me stupid. Every time I turned the page, I had to check to the bottom of the next page to make sure that the man was still OK. I also had to remove the rocking chair that used to be in my bedroom. :-?

I then saw the play and screamed the place down, even though I knew what was going to happen. :D I read somewhere that a couple of people have had heart attacks while watching the play!

That doesn't surprise me at all.
I felt like a complete baby at the theatre and found it all really embarassing.
My friend who took me, worked for a ticketing agency and after that she used my experience as a point of sale.
However, I have known people to go and see it after me and they were disappointed. I guess some people aren't so affected by ghosties

Here's a short description from one site:

"A routine legal assessment turns into an horrific nightmare for a young solicitor. In this spine chilling, Victorian ghost story, Arthur Kidd is sent to settle up the estate of a dead client Alice Drablow.

When he arrives at the small village of Crythin Gifford he comes up against strong local prejudice and superstition. During the course of his work he is haunted by the sight of a sinister, mysterious woman dressed all in black who, according to local custom, has put a curse on the village.

In saving the life of a young gypsy girl Kidd becomes embroiled in the macabre curse that haunt the village. His innocent interference fuels the wrath of the menacing figure known as The Woman In Black."

I think one of the creepiest things about the story is the location of the house. It's a big manor house totally isolated out in the marshes and nowhere near other civilisation, and the fact that you can only travel to and from there when the tide is low because when its high you are blocked in  And that's what happens, he has to stay there at some point.

There are some good reviews here that sum it up well. My DVD version should be coming today!
