Bruiser Lynam Takes A Pop At Idol 'Geek'
The normally unflappable Des Lynam has launched an attack on fellow TV personality Simon Cowell.
The former Match of the Day host hates the Pop Idol judge so much he wants to thump him, saying: "I'd like to go and punch that geek.
"I'd like to punch him now. This minute. I would punch him. That's his game... he wants, almost wants, to be punched.
"He's earning millions out of people wanting to punch him, but I'll be one of the first in the queue."
In an interview with the Radio Times, the former anchor of The Premiership also raged about Big Brother, saying: "Hate it".
And he slated Tony Blair's former communications chief Alastair Campbell ("Who the hell was he? A sidekick of the Prime Minister.").
The 61-year-old bowed out of TV sports presenting at the end of Euro 2004 and his next job will be hosting his own show on Radio 5 Live, interviewing major sports personalities.
The radio slot marks Lynam's return to the BBC after five years with ITV.
But there is no place for him on Match of the Day, which is back on the BBC this season with Gary Lineker in the presenter's chair.
Lynam, who is 62 next month, claimed he was turning his back on TV sports presenting because of his age.
