Big Brother's chicken provider Farriers Fowls has revealed their selection process for this year's event.

A shortlist of birds was drawn up from hundreds of hopefuls.

The final chickens were chosen because of their looks and temperament.

There were originally eight birds, but one of them died from diseased feed.

Bob Nunns of Farriers Fowls told The Radio Times the producers also chose a cockerel which "wanders around and rogers whoever he fancies."

The coop's inmates are caught on the job by the cameras about 20 times a day.

But the act rarely makes it past the censors, he claims.

Mr Nunns says the chickens will not go their separate ways after the event, unlike the contestants.

He said: "We didn't want to split them up because they're flocking birds who form quite strong bonds with each other.

"We're hoping someone will provide them with a decent retirement home."
