My favourites are

Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath (The Bell Jar), E.M. Forster, Mary Wesley.. actually too numerous to mention. I love biography/autobiography, fiction and even children's books like those by E. Nesbitt, Frances Hodgson Burnett and Rumer Godden.

I just love books! @^@

Another vote for Terry Pratchett here, he's a genius IMO.

I also like Bill Bryson, Jeffery Deaver, Colin Dexter, Patrica Cornwell, Michael Palin, JRR Tolkien.
The list is endless really

Stephen King, Terry Pratchett and Mark Billingham (highly recommend his books, even if you don't like crime-triller types).

I always had a crush on Death, which is why I read Discworld books obviously.

Death was in my bedroom once. I told him to bugger off because I was trying to sleep.

Seriously. There was a figure in a black cloak standing by my bed in the middle of the night this one time
