In recent media interviews Mr Maria, who hails from a small town in the south of Portugal, had expressed his regret at his participation in the show whose format has been criticised around the world - but eagerly lapped up by viewers.

I have often wondered about this sort of thing. it's a great shame that things have resorted to this for Jose. I do feel that many HM go into the house with massive insecurities and trying to deal personal issues. BB is NOT the place to try and address these kind of things as often the backlash can be great even if it is not Immediate. At some point being a BB winner will have the same ring as "miss world 1976" you cannot ride on the success for ever and you would need to be a strong and together person to deal with this in the future.

i imagine this only assesses their mental state at the time.perhaps the ones who are fame seekers to begin with are more at risk...fame is such a fickle and fleeting thing.. :-?

Maybe not, but there have been hundreds of BB contestants over the years and we've only heard about one suicide attempt. Maybe it was all different things, not just BB.

The psychologists seem a bit pants really, in every country. Some right nutters have been allowed in the houses all over the world (mostly the US) so obviously whatever method they use isn't completely successful. Then again, most people with problems are very good at hiding it.

Or perhaps they're excellent psychologists and its just that endermol wants emotionally unstable people who might kill themselves? Lest us not forget the psychologist who quit after endermol ignored all his warnings.

I was actually quite worried about Ahmed myself, I could see things in him that I can see in me (note: I don't smash crockery, behead paper mache statues with cross-ethnic cocks or do anything else that he did which was strange in the house, oh, and I definately DON'T dance like that!).

I agree, She was just plain off her head. Ahmed would have an argument and pretty much let it go but Emma would dwell on it.
