I started running this year abba. I followed a very strict training schedule for Race for Life. They provided the schedules for each level of runner on their website. I'm very much a beginner. My advice would be as theirs, build your stamina up slowly.

Now for someone who can really help.... over to you Adrian.

...firstly - don't be scared. ()^
(you only likely to get injured, if you overtrain or you do not warm-up/warm-down correctly). ()^

...p.m me, if you'd like some advice/further info. ()^

Invest in a good pair of special running shoes-rather than use "multi-purpose"trainers.Will protect feet and ankles a lot better from strain.

look where you are running-don't trip over

carry something for protection if running alone in a park or streets like an attack alarm//moblie phone etc.

never exhaust yourself-always have something in reserve (unless in a gym)

drink water in later part and at end.

I would say don't wear a walkman out either in parks/streets.

I did a marathon once, and thats how I ended up doing it, run for 5 minutes walk for 2 minutes, in the end I was walking faster than I was running

I agree that you need really really good shoes for it. Much better than the injury-inducing crap we all had to wear in PE (well, at my school anyway).
