I have just finished this book. It is the true story of a womans fight to unearth the secrets of her past which were so traumatic she has blocked out. She is led to the point of suicide on several occasions. The book alternates between her account of events and her therapists.

it is interesting and sometimes upsetting to read but well worth the read.

One more thing, before I get my head chewed off by anyone who buys it! She mentons her christian faith early on in the book but it is by no means the setting for how it will continue.

That sounds a really interesting read HC. I'm not reading anything at the moment so I will have a look for it when I'm in town tomorrow.

Oh HC, my sister lent me this book and I hated it! :-?

There's no dramatic tension - you know from the start that she doesn't commit suicide (cos she's the co-author) and you can easily guess what the cause of her depression is - because the publisher's helpfully printed a picture of an unhappy-looking little girl on the cover.

And the psychiatrist! Yuk! We are obviously supposed to be impressed by his dedication to his patient. I just saw a man who neglects his wife and young kids.

My copy arrived on Saturday morning from ebay. I haven't been able to put it down all weekend. Yes pizzicato it's pretty obvious from the outset that it was abuse but not who or the circumstances, etc. I particularly found it amazing that the mind can block such things so completely. I contemplated taking it to work with me today and I'm kicking myself that I didn't. Thanks HC for the recommendation.

I agree that it is obvious that it was abuse from the begining. I would agree with you Scotslass in that the amazing thing is the minds ability to block out such a traumatic event and also her minds way of trying to bring it back. Don't want to give too much away if you are reading it but I think if nothing else it showed huge bravery and determination on the womans part to persist, and great patience and support from her husband and children etc.
