ROCK legend Bono has had to get tough with his Band Aid 20 co-stars — to stop them STEALING his famous line.

Robbie Williams admits he was desperate to get “And tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you,” which Bono sang on the original of Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Other top singers like Justin Hawkins from The Darkness, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Fran Healy from Travis were all keen to sing the line too.

In the end U2 frontman Bono had to put his foot down and insist that HE sang it.

On GMTV, they showed a clip of Justin saying something like he had recorded the line, but Bono complained, and even though Justin's version was better, it was being scrapped...

Fiona and Eamon said to Midge Ure 'obviously tongue in cheek', but Midge seemed to suggest that they thought Justin was making a parody of the line, and wasn't taking it seriously, so the producer would have to decide which version to use, Justin's or Bono's.

Heard it after the 8.30 news, I felt myself being transported back 20 years ::lol:: Sounds pretty good but looking forward to seeing the video so I can pinpoint who sings which bit.

Sky news active have a run-down of who sings what line ::lol::

I have to say its one of those xmas songs Im utterly sick of maybe a new lease of life will make me like it again but I doubt it!

I LMFAO when I read in the paper that Joss Stone had never heard of Bob Geldolf - I wonder how many people reading that had ever heard of her ::lol::

And for the record IMO Bono shouldve been kept out of it this time round - I thought the whole idea was that it was for a new generation... so much for it being about good causes seems to me like its all about ego's

Robbie Williams - But say a prayer, Pray for the other ones. At Christmas time it's hard, but when you're having fun.

Fran Healy (Travis) - Where the only water flowing

Fran Healy and the Sugababes - Is the bitter sting of tears

Will Young and Jamelia - And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time

Ms Dynamite and Beverly Knight - (Oooh) Where nothing ever grows, no rain nor rivers flow

Group of 10 and Joss Stone - Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Tom Chaplin (Keane) - Here's to you

Justin Hawkins - Raise a glass for everyone

Dizzee Rascal - Spare a thought this yuletide for the deprived, if the table was turned would you survive

Busted - Here's to them

Justin Hawkins - Underneath that burning sun

If these singers really care about world poverty, they should use their talents to write some protest songs, like people did in the 1960s.

On the other hand, there was a bloke from Oxfam on the radio this morning, saying that the money raised can make a real difference.

It might be best to give money directly to Oxfam (or similar) and save the world from a million CDs that no-one will ever play.
