‘The public can be so sadistic!’
ITV weathergirl Sian Lloyd talks exclusively to I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! online about the current crop of campers and her own experiences in the second series of the show.
What’s it like tuning in at home when you’ve had the experience of being on the inside?
It’s a bit different watching it on your sofa with your home comforts, with a nice glass of wine and a nice bar of chocolate.
And they seem to be having a very different experience to us. For a start it was a different time of the year – so we had the cold to deal with.
Ever the weather watcher, then. So it’s better being an observer than being observed?
Oh yes. For a start it’s way more interesting watching it than being there. They make it look so entertaining. When you’re in there the main thing you have to contend with is the tremendous boredom.
Did you ever forget about the cameras?
You can’t at first because they’re always on you. But after a while you do sort of forget about them. But you can’t change your character, especially not on the unedited coverage – they’ll see through that.
Do you wish you’d been chosen for a trial?
No I was quite pleased I didn’t do one. But I wouldn’t mind most things, to be honest. I’ll eat anything, so I would've eaten bugs. The hardest thing for me would’ve been crossing that bridge. It looked terrifying.
So you must have had a lot of sympathy for Natalie?
Yes I did. I just felt very sorry for her. She wasn’t cut out for life in the jungle. She was just so fearful and just very vulnerable.
Mind you, that didn’t stop the public voting for her to do so many trials. It just shows you how sadistic the general people can be! They don’t let up on them.
Why do you think the public turned against her?
I don’t know really. Because she seemed to be very popular in camp. The others all said she was a lot of fun. It just depends how they edit you, I suppose. So she’ll feel bad.
But then again, it’s only showbiz. Some of them seem to forget that. They take it so seriously! But they’ll all do well out of it, in the end. Natalie would have soon been whisked off back to her nice hotel and scrubbed up clean and relaxing in her room.
Who’s your current favourite?
I just love the way Janet conducts herself – her gobbiness and the way she doesn’t let anything go. She’s so sparky – I just love her exchanges with Paul.
And that’s the great thing about the show – the surprises it throws up. Look at Joe and Paul! And Paul has come across far better than I would have expected. I really think he’s regained people’s sympathies.
So who do you reckon’ll win?
I think Joe will. I had no idea that he would be so entertaining. He comes across so well.
He just seems like a really nice guy and really genuine. He’s obviously just being himself and in the end people will see that and they’ll respond to it.
