Erasure singer battling HIV


Erasure frontman Andy Bell has announced he's been battling HIV for the past six years.

The singer has issued a statement thanking fans for their support and assuring them that despite his battle with the virus he is in good spirits and has a long future ahead of him.

Bell, one of the first openly gay pop stars in the 1980s, says in a statement: "I found out I was HIV positive in June 1998 when I had a bout of pneumonia in Mallorca. Since then I have been taking combination therapy and I am feeling fine. In fact, I have never felt better."

Despite his illness, Bell is celebrating his band's 20th anniversary next year with an album which has just been recorded. Nightbird is due to be released on January 25.

They also have plans to embark on a tour in Britain and America in the spring.breakingnews

Look on the bright side....they have come such a long way with treatment. There are many people now with full blown aids living a full and healthy life and with a life expectancy no different to anyone else who doesn't have it.

no hippo..its not sad,as hes doing well on the meds, sad would be if he was dying.im quite upset about that remark.im sure you meant it in a nice way......didnt you?
HIV still has a lot of stigma attached to it let alone AIDS.its not the deadly killer for so many people nowadays as it was 10 yrs ago.however everyone must still remember that its not going away,theres still no cure and maybe ud be surprised how many people inc friends of yours/ours have it yet choose not to come out as it were due to the reaction of many people.....

I am presuming that Hippo meant sad in a nice way because although HIV can be treated really well nowadays it is sad he had to battle in the first place. It would beeasier if he had managed not to catch the virus but unfortunately it happens every day.
