A woman given up for adoption at birth will try to pick out her long-lost father from a line of impostors in a new US reality TV show.

Fox TV's Who's Your Daddy promises $100,000 (£52,000) to the contestant if she correctly identifies her father.

Six episodes with six reunions have been filmed, with the first scheduled for broadcast in January 2005.

"If you watch the show, it's going to be impossible for you not to get choked up," said Fox TV's Kevin Healey.

Who's Your Daddy is the latest in a slew of reality TV shows hoping to mirror the success of hit series like American Idol and Joe Millionaire.

It opens with the contestant being introduced to a panel of eight men, each of whom must convince her that he is her real father.

If she guesses correctly, the contestant wins the jackpot - otherwise the money goes to the successful impostor.

Producers claim the casting process has helped to bring together about 36 parents with the children they gave up for adoption.

"The people who are on the show are not there for the money. They're there to meet their dad," said Mr Healey's partner, Scott Hallock.
