Police are investigating a complaint made against racing expert John McCririck after he allegedly assaulted a female security guard.
Jan Cole, 55, called the police following the alleged incident at York races when Mr McCririck tried to get into a part of the racecourse for which he did not have an appropriate pass.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police confirmed that a complaint was made following an incident at the race meeting.
But Mr McCririck said "nothing untoward" happened during his visit to the course.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "I can confirm there was an incident at York races on 23 August.
"Following a complaint of an assault made at 1230BST yesterday (Thursday) at York Racecourse, a 61-year-old man was interviewed and a file will be submitted in due course."
McCririck said he spoke voluntarily to police following the alleged incident on the Knavesmire.
He said: "I haven't seen her statement at all and I don't know what is in it.
"I made a statement to the police on the incident, as I saw it, but I have no idea what she has said."
Racecourse site security officer Graham Smith confirmed that an allegation had been made by a woman.
He said: "The police have spoken to Mr McCririck and a file will go to the local administration support unit and then it will be decided if any further action should be taken."
