Arsenal star Jermaine Pennant has been charged with drink driving after his Mercedes Benz ploughed into a lamp post.The 22-year-old former England under 21 player crashed in the centre of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in the early hours of Sunday.A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "Police were called to Park Street in Aylesbury at 6.20am following reports that a car had collided with a lamp post.
"Officers attended the scene and arrested the driver of a Mercedes.
"He was taken to Aylesbury Police Station where he was later charged with drink driving."
The midfielder, from Barnet, north London, was freed on bail to attend Aylesbury Magistrates' Court on February 1.
The Mercedes Pennant was driving belongs to his Arsenal team mate Ashley Cole, The Sun reported.
Pennant made his Arsenal debut against Middlesbrough in a Worthington Cup tie on November 30, 1999, making him Arsenal's youngest ever first team player at 16 years and 319 days.
