GAZZA is to be a FIGURE SKATER in a Strictly Come Dancing special.

In a move which will stun footie fans, the former England star has agreed to don a sequined outfit and try ice dancing for the BBC Christmas show.

Gazza — not exactly famed for his grace on the dance floor, let alone on ice — was this week spotted buying skates at a rink in Whitley Bay on Tyneside.

Viewers could even see Gazza partnering former Olympic champ Jayne Torvill — who won a hatful of medals with Christopher Dean.
Jayne, 45, is being asked to join the show too — and we have shown how she could look alongside Gazza.

The BBC said: “We are delighted that Gazza has agreed to take part. He will be one of six celebrities teamed up with professional skaters for the Christmas special. They will be marked by three professional skating judges.”

The BBC hope millions will tune in to see Gazza try his hand at tricky moves like triple jumps, the double axle, a triple lutz or triple salchow without falling on his bottom.

It’s not the first reality show Gazza — who now calls himself G8 — has been lined up for.

He hoped to join I’m A Celeb but ITV producers pulled out of talks at the last minute.

Gazza gets his skates on

WHY-AYE! Soccer ace Paul Gascoigne pitches in on the ICE — and performs with all the grace of a donkey.
The former England star bravely tackled skating yesterday for his latest challenge — a Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

But onlookers were left wondering why he bothered as Gazza, 37, hit Tyneside’s Whitley Bay rink.

It was his first time on ice — and it showed.

But the Geordie is determined to perform tricky moves like triple jumps and the double axle so he can dance in the same league as the professionals.

Gazza is one of six celebs. No doubt Bruce Forsyth will tell him: “Ice to see you, to see you, ice!”

Gazza's pain in the neck

PAUL GASCOIGNE was rushed to hospital after injuring his neck while training to be an ice ace.

The soccer legend fell repeatedly in the rink as he secretly trained for a Christmas special of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing.

We revealed last month how Gazza, 37, was being put through his paces in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear.

The Beeb are holding former England goalkeeper David Seaman in reserve in case Gazza misses the Boxing Day show.

SEAMAN: MY TRUE GOAL WAS HOCKEY

ENGLAND legend David Seaman revealed he almost missed out on a football career - to become a professional ice skater.

The former goalkeeper is competing in Boxing Day's Strictly Ice Dancing on BBC.

But he has an unfair advantage against the rest of the celebrities - he trained as an ice hockey player when he was younger.

The Sunday Mirror had an exclusive peek at rehearsals for the extravaganza, a twist on hit show Strictly Come Dancing with the same presenter, Bruce Forsyth.

David Seaman said: "It was a close call between ice hockey or football. I'm going to get ribbed something rotten when the lads see me in my sparkly top and tights."

Seaman came into the show at the last minute to replace Gazza, injured during practice - which contestant Jessica Taylor from Liberty X can sympathise with. She said: "My body is covered in bruises from falling over."

Other competitors are EastEnders' Scarlett Johnson, Carol Smillie, Rowland Rivron and Hollyoaks fireman Marcus Patrick

The winner of this years Strictly Come Dancing Jill Halfpenny is a bigger draw then DVO or Jennifer Ellison in the hit West end musical Chicago.
Since she joined the show Jill has broken the box-office record at the Adelphi Theatre.
