I've just finished this and think it is one of the most original novels I've read in a long time. The premise of the story is that Henry, a librarian meets Claire when she is 6 and he is 36, but he is only 8 years older than her. He has Chrono Displacement Disorder which means he time travels, but not voluntarily. It tends to happen when he is stressed but he has no control over where he goes, what times he travels too and how long he stays there. He goes back to meet Clare to prepare her for when they will meet in real time, and they marry when she is 22 and he is 30.
The story is beautifully told, with alternate sections for Clares take on what is happening and then Henry's. It isn't just a love story, its also a story about resiliance, patience and fortitude. They both deal with some pretty horrendous times, sometimes together and sometimes separately. How they deal with Henry's disappearances is at times sad but also with some really funny moments, like their efforts to ensure Henry doesn't disappear during their wedding or reception.

Iwould recommend reading this before Hollywood gets it hands on it.

I would also recommend this. Its really very good, very original and doesn't cop out at the end.

I enjoyed this book too. The first half especially. Very clever and original.

I've just been lent this book by someone at work. They tried to explain the plot to me but I got a bit confused so I shall have to dive in and read it.

I think the woman's name alone makes it a worthwhile read.

I am reading this at the moment and I think it's very good, I was reading it this lunchtime and I kind of overran my lunch break
I suppose that goes to show it's an interesting book.

I'll let you know what I thought of the whole book once I've finished

This book is being reviewed on Richard and Judy today. It's one of their chosen books for 2005. :D

I know - Richard kissed the back of it and advised people to grab other folk's lapels and persuade them to read it.

You can't get a much higher recommendation than that.

Yikes, an American spelling in the title - that gives me a shiver up my spine! Keep posting on your progress, HC. I'd love to know how you get on with it.

A most inspired book. It takes a little while to get into the plot as you sometimes lose track of where he is in time, but after that it is just brilliant. I would recommend it to anyone. Ellie gives a great description ^^^^^ up there and I second it. Definately one to read and its not just a chick book either. I think men would enjoy it too.

One of those rare books where as soon as I finished it I wanted to read it all over again :x

I must be the only person in the world who didn't like this book. Well actually the book was fine, I just didn't like the main characters.

What didn't you like about them Alice?

I adored it. I read it again this year as I liked it so much. I shall probably have another reread in a few months time. It is one of my favourite books ever.

Hmm... hard to say exactly because it's been 18 months since I read it. I remember having a strong dislike for the two main characters, by the end I just didn't care.

Other than that it was well written and it was an interesting idea. Maybe I should give it another go. I had the same feeling about The Dead Zone and I love Stephen King, so it's probably just something about me.
