UK Eurovision hopefuls appeal for support

The acts hoping to represent Britain in the next instalment of Eurovision called for the public’s support today.

Glamour girl Jordan, Pop Idol’s Andy Scott Lee, Girls Aloud reject Javine, former Eurovision singer Gina G and three tenors Tricolore are all hoping to be Britain’s entry.

Jordan, who is singing the track Not Just Anybody, said today: “I think people should vote for me because I’m new to this.

“The others have all been in talent shows before, they’ve all been in the music business.

“I should be given a chance to represent the country.”

The former I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Contestant said: “The British public have really supported me in the last couple of years and I feel I want to give something back.

“The only way I can do that is by representing the country. I’m not going to try and use my body, that’s the Jordan side. I’m going to be Katie Price.”

Javine said her song Touch My Fire was a “real up-tempo dance track”.

She said: “I think we have all got a good chance. I know I’m very good and what I’m going to do on stage is going to be very good.”

Australian Gina G, who represented Britain in 1996, when her track came in at seventh place on the leaderboard, said of her song Flashback: “It’s about the good times we all used to have in our clubbing days, our party days, when we had no worries at all, when we used to just go out and have a good time.”

Lee Ryan from Blue wrote Andy Scott Lee’s song, Guardian Angel.

The former Pop Idol contestant said: “It’s about someone in your life who is special, who is looking after you.

“I think it’s wicked and I’m hoping that the public are going to like it.

“If I get picked I’m going to give a good solid performance and yes, bring it back to the UK. It’s about time.”

Tricolore are also competing for Britain’s vote with Brand New Day.

The group said: “We’re hoping people will acknowledge it as a great song and it will stand up on its own.”

The 50th Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Kiev, Ukraine on May 21. breakingnews

Personally, I can't believe she won't use her body, I mean she needs her mouth and vocal cords to sing! ::lol::  If she does get chosen, is she going to make a documentary about it, with Peter giving her singing lessons. Seriously though, has anyone heard her sing? What is she like?

I thought I saw her say somewhere that she's a good singer? I dunno, I don't think I've actually heard her sing.

OK, let's sort this Eurovision/Annual National Popularity Contest malarkey out once and for all. Greece, 12 points to the country called Sheep and vice-versa, no points to Turkey. The Scandinavians can all pat each other on the backs, as can the Baltics and Balkans. Everyone'll laugh at the German entry and gawp in awe at the teenage sensation from Liechtenstein. We'll lead to the last vote, when it's our turn, max points to Ireland, who steal it from under our noses. It's the same every year ;)

Although if we could improve our chances considerably by pulling out of Iraq

Our best hope would be send in a blind, dreadlocked, teenage transsexual. Instead we're likely to send in a bird with humoungous hooters :-? . That'll guarantee the Germans on our side then.

Ireland aren't having much success lately - we have to go to the qualifiers this year!

For the past few years, the act to represent Ireland in the Eurovision has been chosen by the public in a Pop Idol type competition - called 'You're a Star' (get the pun?!). The actual series has proved very popular, with different regions really getting behind 'their' act - but at the end of it all, the (so-far) male winner puts in a mediocre performance at the actual Eurovision. Last year we almost got nil points.

This year's You're a Star is intriguing. 5 acts remaining - just one solo male - but he does have a great voice. There's a group who would kind of remind you of the Corrs (3 sisters, one man, traditional music), but the surprise success so far is a brother and sister act. He's 17, and honestly looks about 9. When you see them at first, you think that their image is all wrong, but they have such enthusiasm and great voices that you can't help but like them. And their image ends up being wonderful - in a strange kind of way.

People have said that if the act - Donna and Joseph McCaul - were to win, it would be funny to see them up against Jordan - as they seem to be the complete opposite.

I'd love to see them win, but we could end up with yet another male solo act.

(Brian will probably disagree with all of above, as we seem to have different tastes. Different generations, perhaps!)

I think Eurovision is a hoot especially after a couple of glasses of red wine and Terry Wogan makes me laugh. :D
