Comedian Dave Allen dies, aged 68

Comedian Dave Allen has died at the age of 68, his agent said today.

The Irishman died in his sleep at his west London home last night.

Allen became a star through his routines delivered as he sat on a stool, often while sipping a drink or smoking a cigarette. He enjoyed success with like Tonight With Dave Allen and Dave Allen At Large.

He leaves a wife, Karin, and three children.

He was most famous for his dry-humoured TV shows Tonight With Dave Allen and Dave Allen at Large.

Allen got his first break on a BBC talent show in 1959, and toured with the Beatles in the UK and France. breakingnews

I just heard this news myself.

I thought he was a very funny guy and certainly a one off, he'll be much missed I'm sure.

RIP Dave.

What better epitaph? I remember when his show used to come on the BBC when I was a child - I was sent to bed because it wasn't 'suitable', according to my mother. She really enjoyed him, mind you, and she was around the same age when she died. Maybe they'll have a laugh together in heaven.

I still laugh my head off at the racing coffins sketch. He was a very funny man indeed.
