A Berkshire punter has placed what is believed to be a record £13,000 on Oxford to win Sunday's annual Boat Race on the River Thames in west London.

The whopping wager at odds of 8/13 was made over the telephone by a man from Windsor, said bookmaker William Hill.

The mystery punter will win £8,000 if Oxford beat the smaller Cambridge crew in the 151st varsity rowing contest.
