column today had a bit about Cameron's brothers blackening (you are soooo lucky!! I have wanted to be involved in one of them ever since I first moved here and started seeing people in those open top vans clarted in the stuff ::lol:: ), a bit about how women and men's brains work differently or something and books he'd been reading about it, there was also about how in Orkney petrol prices are now over 90 pence (well in one shop anyway).

There was something else, I'm sure there was. It has totally escaped me!

What on earth is this about? Will the rest of us require subtitles?

I would of course agree the women and men's brains work differently - women's work FULL TIME, whereas men only manage PART TIME!

::lol::

a blackening takes place not that long before a wedding. I've seen it with indivdual brides and grooms and also them getting it done together as couples. a group of family/friends tend to organise an open top truck thing and an awful lot of gunk quite frankly! tends to be food like treacle, flour, eggs etc etc and they go out and get absolutely COVERED in it!!! then they have a tendancy to drive through towns making an awful lot of noise, where my shop is positioned it is great in the summer as you see them a lot!!

Unfortunately I have never been part of one but it looks amazing fun!!

my friend who used to be at my work went out with a couple who got it done and they went into the country as they knew someone that owned a field or something. they were adamant they weren't having one but it was a surprise ::lol::

I probably didn't explain it totally correctly.

On the contrary, Jezi, you have been invaluable in explaining 'Scottishisms' to those of us unlucky enough NOT to live in Ecosse!

::lol:: I'm not very good at explaining things though, I'm one of those really annoying people who uses 50 words when they could use 10 :oops:

If I really have been of a little bit of help GG then I am pleased

I've been slagged for not being succinct - but without people like us, those other 40 words would be unemployed!

:eek: Seems to be too primitive tradition in this civilized world - but if you're male and live in an island - it happens ::lol::
