This is UK BBFans web-site, I know, but I couldn't resist:

There were 5 236 611 Finns living in Finland 31st December, 2004
Most of them are 50-54 years old
They have 4 700 000 mobile-phone-connections with thelephone-operators (I have at the moment two of them) and 1/3 of them are having so called ADSL internet-line.
80 % of them are watching TV daily - only 1 % doesn't watch TV at all.
They have 2 300 000 private cars (I have at the moment two cars)
Most of the Finns drives with Toyota's (me too)
They have 9,2 % unemployment record
Women are expected to live about 82 years and men 75 years.
Most of Finnish women dies because of breast-cancer and men because of coronary diseases.
They drink 100 % alcohol about 8,2 litres per inhabitant (who on earth is drinking behalf of me?)
38 % of them are married, 47 % are single and rest of them are just living together with their partners
84 % of them belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church (me too)
Families dreams about having 2-2,5 children, but they usually have 1,8 children
Nowadays mothers are usually at least 30 years old when they give birth to a child (they study first and get themselves a permanent job or create a career before settling down)
87 % of the men are taking part of cooking at home and cleaning (household stuff)
20 % of the Finns earns 'only' 16 500 to 24 999 € per year.
Households are consuming mostly their money to the keeping their houses warm and waterpayments
Over 50 % of them are picking their own berries and mushrooms still in the forests
Over 40 % of them are fishing as their hobby and hunting is hobby for over 20 % of them
67 % of them does handiwork as their hobby
75 % of them plays games like Lottery
They did 784 000 crimes last year - they drives too fast (186 000 times last year) and they drive drunk too much (27 000 times last year), they raped 591 times last year and they killed each other 148 times last year.
70 % of teenagers writes a diary. (I did it too and they are fun to read these days)
They have about 500 000 summer-cottages in their country (we have two cottages)
1/3 of them lives in a block of flats and about 50 % of them lives in detached (one-family) house (like me)

Cheers, you make us sound so wonderful  But I guess that's true too, it's really dark here for a few months in the winter and the darkness depresses a lot of people, myself included. We did have some people that were really good at javelin-thow, but they are off shape these days. So there you go :D

Liisi: only 13 % of men doesn't do any of daily tasks at home in Finland.

In my own opinion it's natural to calm down your life in dark winter-times and it's not depression. But the rythm of life insists people do things opposite than their nature is. I love every season.

Vilt UK: That's great if you knew that some Finns has trown the javelin a long way. It's pretty well done because the whole country has less inhabitants than most cities in Europe. ;)
