Yes we Finns, who has read some Tolkien, do know that Tolkien studied Finnish as well when he was in Oxford University and used Finnish when he created Elven tongue. He was interested in Finnish as a language as well. But maybe we that's why like his books and can undertand too the part of Tom Bombadil as well and why it's in the book. Aragorn had something to do with those lost spirits in the end of the adventure. But as usually, eventhought films were great, I think that books should be read first, because books have so many details that cannot be found in films. Like the episode of Tom Bombadil.
Tolkien wrote to his children every Christmas letters from Santa Claus as well and now they have published those letters in a book. Did you know that real Santa Claus lives in Finland, not in a North Pole?
We have national epic called Kalevala (you know that Greeks has their Odysseys-epic etc.) and that's story that Tolkien learnt to know as well. So it's not a theory that Tolkien used some knowledge of Finnish language, it's true.
