The show starts on Saturday the 23rd of April. The promotion of the show has now started on tv with 2 adverts a day. Gossip about the girls in the daily newspapers most days. Today, 3 of the girls are on the front of the Daily Star and the Sun today has:
Kate scratched my boobs

No more Miss Sweetie Pie ... Leilani's got attitude

STUNNING Page 3 beauty Leilani Dowding today lifts the lid on the sexy catfights between stars on TV’s Celebrity Wrestling.

The 26-year-old says she was:

# SCRATCHED
on the boobs by Big Brother star Kate Lawler.

# Had her sexy leather top RIPPED OFF
by former tennis sweetheart Annabel Croft.

# FANCIED three of her male co-stars.

# FLIRTED outrageously with royal cad James Hewitt.

Three heavily-moistened MegaBabes, wearing the merest of spangly micro-bikinis, lolling and grappling in mock battle under a shower of water in the centre pages.

That's quite enough on the Daily Star's election coverage. Instead, let's find out what's going to happen in ITV1's new Saturday night brain-challenger, Celebrity Wrestling.

Rightly only paying lip-service on page two to dreary, desperate politicos, the Star focuses instead on smalls-sporting lovelies Michelle 'Liberty X' Heaton, Kate 'The Brainiac' Lawler and MegaStar discovery Leilani Dowding (hello to you), as they prepare to treat sofa-bound trouser-rubbers to a mindless lady-grapple on late night channel three.

"Celeb wrestling babes come out fighting," promises the Star's front splash, inticing male dopes to turn to the middle bit to clock bought-in Maxim snaps of the girlies play-acting in faux-anger and rattling on to build up the pre-guff hype.

One thing's for sure, Giant Haystacks would've looked a right bugger in one of Leilani, Kate and Meesh's silver slivers.

So welcome, then, grapple fans, to the red-tops' new, er, reality talking point.

Ding ding!

Kate scratched my boobs REALLY BADLY.

so when did Kate ever have ANY nails-(I've not heard Jonathan complain. :-? )maybe she was just dreaming and hoping Kate would do that to her.

Other bits from the article"I didn't get on with Kate.We had one screaming row when she was being a little football hooligan and shouting"You Mug" to try to wind me up.
She's got a lot of mouth but I just laughed as she's a scrawny little runt.I'd love a rematch at boxing so I can punch her silly little face with a right hook.I'd like to knock her head off."

Picture of Kate and Leilani fighting-I notice Kate has lost her protective helmet and Leilani looks to have her undercarriage pinned and moving forward.

Leilani fancied Iwan,Lee and Jeff despite having a boyfriend and flirted with the Major. They opted for mixed (team)dressing rooms to tease the guys a little.

Timelord tag-team is too tough-Daily Star

ITV bosses are still debating when to show Celebrity Wrestling. It will kick off saturday 23rd amid a large advertising campaign.Originally touted to go head-to head with the new Dr Who at 7pm however TV chiefs are worried a brand new format launch might suffer against the mega performing New Dr Who when even the well established and highly popular Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway has been well and truly exterminated in the ratings war for prime time saturday.

Insiders say a later time is being considered so that the show which might have future mileage even with the same contestants is not swamped by Dr Who hysteria.

The action in the ring is also rather feisty so some people working on the show think it needs to be screened later if everything can be shown. For example some of the girls get their tops ripped off in combat action-and you can't show that at 7 pm.

But if the two shows do end up going head-to head ITV will want to grapple some of those millions of viewers away from the BBC.The good Doctor pulled in 8.3 Million for its third episode last Saturday.

The producers would be mad to put the show on the same time as Dr Who or Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. 9pm would be a better time slot for Celebrity Wrestling because there is ball all nothing on at that time.

Nigel Pickard Director of programmes at ITV spoke about Celebrity Wrestling in an artical in the evening Standard newspaper last week. He said:
" Celebrity Wrestling is a wonderful, tongue-in-cheek WWF-meets-Gladiators, which the celebrities absolutely went for - I'm afraid we had broken bones. It's about creating entertainment events that get talked about".

James Hewitt

What could be better than seeing posh boy James Hewitt being roughed up by some other C-list celeb?

Well, for those that way inclined probably seeing Victoria Silvstedt take on page three girl Leilani Dowding in the wrestling ring...

In a new TV reality show Celebrity Wrestling, 12 faces from the world of showbiz are vying for some serious bruising as they take each other on - not just in the wrestling ring but also in steel cages.

The six female contenders for the crown of Queen of the ring are Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton, TV presenter Jenny Powell, former tennis star Annabel Croft, as well as Victoria and Leilani.

In the men's changing room, James Hewitt will be tucking in his wrestling vest alongside Jade Goody's ex Jeff Brazier, athlete Iwan Thomas, actor Marc Bannerman who played Gianni Di Marco in EastEnders, show jumper Oliver Skeete and kids' TV presenter Mark Speight.

The show, which is due to be screened on ITV in the spring, will see the 12 celebrities being coached by professional wrestlers from the US circuit.

An ITV spokesman said: "This is wrestling as it's never been seen before with the celebrities being taught real skills to win real bouts.

"The celebrities are not just competing for fun. There are points and pride at stake and ultimately there can be only one King and Queen of the ring."

The show will be presented by Kate Thornton, with the help of WWF legend Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Kate Lawler - Celeb Wrestling's The Brawler

We may be seeing the last episode of The Osbournes, and The Games are long over.
But fear not - our next dose of reality TV is just around the corner.

Celebrity Wrestling, starting on ITV1 this Saturday, will see various C-list bods flinging each other around a ring.

Presented by Kate Thornton, contestants will battle it out to be crowned king or queen of the competition.

Contenders include:
Liberty X star Michelle Heaton
Model Victoria Silvstedt
Toff James Hewitt
Big Brother winner Kate Lawler
TV presenter Jenny Powell
Jade Goody's ex, Jeff Brazier.
The show has already caused sparks in the changing rooms.

Michelle Heaton recently took a swipe at fellow contestant Victoria, saying she'd like to give her a "good slap in the boobs".

And Michelle called Kate "really bitchy", adding that they have already "had words".

In an interview with Now magazine, she also admitted her boyfriend, singer Andy Scott-Lee, loves seeing her scrapping with other girlies.

Sexy stars battle it out

STUNNING babes including Victoria Silvstedt, Kate Lawler and Page 3 pin-up Leilani launched ITV's new Celebrity Wrestling series yesterday.

The show pits the likes of Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton, former tennis star Annabel Croft and TV presenter Jenny Powell against each other in a series of Gladiators-style bouts.

And male viewers planning to watch will be pleased to know that one of the contests involves the girls ripping each other's clothes off.

Speaking at the launch actress and model Victoria, 29, said: "It was much harder than I expected it to be.

"It is really physical. I've got bruising, I'm red and I've banged my head against the floor.

"We've been fighting like cats and rats."

Big Brother 3 winner Kate, 24, said she joined the ITV show, which begins on ITV1 and ITV2 on Saturday April 23, because she wanted to get fit again.

"I didn't want to be tired while running up the stairs," Kate revealed.

"I like to inspire people to exercise because I think this nation is a bit lazy."

Joining the girls in the squared circle are showjumper Oliver Skeete, Jade Goody's ex Jeff Brazier, Marc Bannerman – who played Gianni Di Marco in EastEnders – athlete Iwan Thomas, children's TV presenter Mark Speight and James Hewitt.

The show - which replaces Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway - will be fronted by sexy X Factor host Kate Thornton and wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Roddy, 50, said: "Our celebrities are really determined and they are going for it.

"They've all got their reputations and their niches in entertainment and want to protect that ferociously.

"I can tell how much it means to all of them – I can see it in their eyes."

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Iwan, 30, added: "I was pleased to do this show with such a great bunch of people – we hit if off brilliantly.

"But you may not be thinking that when you see us trying to rip each other's heads off."

ITV1 Saturday 23 April 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM

It’s no holds barred as twelve famous faces go toe to toe on ITV1’s new primetime Saturday night show, Celebrity Wrestling.

Split into two teams of six, and under the guidance of two of the biggest names from the world of professional wrestling, they will square up for combat in a series of REAL bouts.

The two teams – the Warriors and the Crusaders – have their sights set on the Team Championship Trophy. The highest scoring Celebrity Wrestlers will then enter into a knockout competition to win the Male and Female Celebrity Wrestling Champions Belts.
The teams getting to grips with each other are:
The Crusaders: Liberty X singer MICHELLE HEATON, TV presenter JENNY POWELL, pin-up LEILANI DOWDING, the infamous Major JAMES HEWITT, children’s TV presenter MARK SPEIGHT and presenter JEFF BRAZIER.

The Warriors: Former tennis star ANNABEL CROFT, TV presenter KATE LAWLER, actress and former Miss Sweden VICTORIA SILVSTEDT, former EastEnders heart-throb MARC BANNERMAN, showjumper OLIVER SKEETE and Commonwealth Games Gold medal winning athlete IWAN THOMAS.

In the first programme, Oliver Skeete takes on James Hewitt and Marc Bannerman squares up to Jeff Brazier, while for the girls, TV Presenter Jenny Powell gets to grips with model Victoria Silvstedt and this week’s ‘Masked Celebrity’.

The combat won’t always be restricted to the four roped walls of a traditional ring as some of the games feature an eight foot drop from the main, podium while others take place inside a five metre square cage.

Training the celebrities for success are two world famous wrestlers who fought for their reputations on the American wrestling circuit, D-LO BROWN (Crusaders) and JOE LEGEND (Warriors). With a fierce rivalry already brewing between these two team coaches, there’s bound to be a few rucks as each vies for their chosen celebrities’ success.

Presenter KATE THORNTON is joined by former WWF legend ‘ROWDY’ RODDY PIPER to take viewers into a world of wrestling never seen before, with the celebrities being taught REAL skills to win REAL bouts.

They’ve been training hard and they’re ready for a celebrity rumble!femalefirst

ITV wrestles for Saturday ratings

Celebrities were trained for three weeks for the TV competition
The latest celebrity reality show pits stars against one another as they literally wrestle for the attention of Saturday night viewers.

Celebrity Wrestling hopes to revive television interest in the sport - as BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing did for ballroom dancing - by making 12 performers fight each other in a variety of battles.

In doing so it brings the hot air and razzmatazz of US wrestling to ITV's prime time schedule, reviving the flamboyance of hit 1990s game show Gladiators and challenging Doctor Who's dominance in the process.

"It's very theatrical," says Kate Thornton, who hosts the show with US wrestling star "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. "It's like a violent pantomime."

Professional wrestlers

Ex-EastEnders actor Marc Bannerman, former tennis star Annabel Croft, Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton and reality TV regulars James Hewitt and Jeff Brazier are among those taking part.

Perhaps it is a logical TV progression after a rash of reality shows which have seen celebrities put in underground chambers containing rats and asked to eat pies filled with insects.

And programme-makers Granada were keen to emphasise that participants had three weeks of intensive training from professional US wrestlers during the filming of the series.

Jenny Powell
We were not just thrown in there - we were pretty well-prepared

But are participants not disturbed by the fact that viewers want to see them hurt each other?

"I think it's human nature," said presenter Jenny Powell, who adopts the fighting name The Avenger for the eight-week series.

"At the end of the day we were properly trained, we were not just thrown in there. We were pretty well-prepared."

Nevertheless Thornton admits that more injuries were sustained during the filming of the series than she had anticipated.

Children's TV presenter Mark Speight was among those hurt, breaking his right finger during filming.

"It hurt a bit but luckily I am left-handed," he says. "I didn't realise the show was going to be so full-on."

He denies Celebrity Wrestling sets a bad example to children, however, saying it merely presents a recognised sport in a "controlled environment".

Thornton is equally adamant. "If you are talking about encouraging violence then don't make boxing a sport and take the football fans out of the terraces," she says.

"Whatever genre of TV you are making, there will always be a couple of people who spoil the party."

Single-sex bouts

Celebrities say it was the physical demands of the show which encouraged them to take part, although their wages and the boost to their public profiles were no doubt additional factors.

"For a lot of us the initial attraction was to get fit," says Brazier, who used to play for football team Leyton Orient. "We just fell into this amazing experience, we did not know it was going to be as good as it was."

Bannerman, who played Gianni di Marco in EastEnders until 2000, agrees. "I turned up on the first day as this 15-and-a-half stone chubby actor, when everybody else was toned and ready to fight. Our trainer Joe Legend helped me a lot."

With celebrities split into two opposing teams - the red Crusaders and blue Warriors - the show consists of a series of short single-sex bouts.

The first episode features Powell and model Victoria Silvstedt attempting to tear at each other's costumes in a challenge known as Rip Wrestle.

Are female contestants concerned that their contests will be regarded as mere titillation?

"Of course male viewers are going to want to watch women fighting each other in these little outfits," says Michelle Heaton, "but when they see it they will realise it is hard work.

'Raw competition'

"We are not playing - it's real wrestling, we are getting hurt and injured. I think people will respect that."

Model Leilani Dowding adds: "After they have watched us fight they won't dare come near us again."

The celebrities lived together for a fortnight as the show was filmed, germinating the explosive tension that reality show viewers have come to expect.

There's a massive appetite for shows like this - the viewing figures will tell you that

While all participants seem to have enjoyed the experience, talking about the camaraderie encouraged by its "raw competition", they are aware that it follows a slew of recent celebrity reality shows.

Thornton, who also presents talent show X-Factor, says it will soon become obvious if viewers are tired of the format.

"There's a massive appetite for shows like this," she says. "The viewing figures will tell you that.

"Television is all about spectacle and drama. If audiences continue to grow for shows like Celebrity Wrestling then more will be made."

Celebrity Wrestling begins on ITV1 at 1900 BST on 23 April. BBC

Scantily clad stars of Celebrity Wrestling will be raring to go when the show finally kicks off after a fortnight's nookie ban during rehearsals.

TV babes Kate Lawler and Annabel Croft have already had a number of spats during training for the glamorous grapple-fest as they try to look their best for the cameras.

But things are likely to get even more tense when the 12 contestants are finally allowed to release all the energy they have been storing up while away from their other halves.

Liberty X's Michelle Heaton told the Daily Star how she has had to neglect boyfriend Andy Scott-Lee for the run-up to the ITV show.

"Andy and I exchanged a couple of text messages, but that was about it," said the singer, who will be known as Inferno when she steps into the ring on April 23rd.

Launching the series yesterday, model Victoria Silvstedt, who will be known as the Ice Maiden, revealed how tough she found the Gladiators-style games.

"It was much harder than I expected it to be. It is really physical," she said.

"I've got bruising, I'm red and I've banged my head against the floor. We've been fighting like cats and rats."

Other stars who will putting their fitness to the test - and fitting into some seriously silly outfits at the same time - include Annabel Croft, aka Solitaire, James Hewitt, aka Gentleman Jim and Marc Bannering, aka El Diablo.

Michelle Heaton says she fears her drink was spiked with a date rape drug.

The Liberty X singer collapsed after drinking two vodkas at the Penthouse club in London reports The Sun.

She had to be taken out of the club by the back door with the help of her boyfriend Andy Scott-Lee.

She said: "It was terrifying. I can remember arriving at the club and then having two vodka and cokes. I'm a Geordie lass and I can take my drink."

Michelle said that she was dancing strangely, couldn't control her balance and then collapsed.

She said: "Andy told me what happened and I was horrified I know my drink must have been spiked for me to behave like that. I felt like my head was going to explode."

She added: "It's all very scary and from now on I'm going to make sure I never take my eye off a drink for a second."

A spokesman for the club said: "We are horrified about what has happened and will review CCTV footage and speak to the police if necessary. It's a horrible problem afflicting London."

She is taking part in Celebrity Wrestling which start tomorrow night on ITV1.

Kate wrestling with pain

CELEBRITY Wrestling babe Kate Lawler told yesterday of the strain of her long-distance romance with footballer Jonathan Woodgate.

Kate has been busy training for the new reality TV show in London while England star Jonathan is in Spain with Real Madrid.

The Big Brother star, 24, said: “I am finding it very difficult.

“As much as we trust each other, it’s hard when you’re in different countries and don’t see each other for a few weeks at a time.”

Kate fights competitors including Swedish model Victoria Silvstedt in Celebrity Wrestling which starts on ITV next Saturday.

She said she has had no time to visit Jonathan, 25, who has missed the entire Spanish football season with a thigh injury.

Kate added: “I phone him after training.

“He’s been really encouraging and is looking forward to seeing the show.”
