Timelord tag-team is too tough-Daily Star

ITV bosses are still debating when to show Celebrity Wrestling. It will kick off saturday 23rd amid a large advertising campaign.Originally touted to go head-to head with the new Dr Who at 7pm however TV chiefs are worried a brand new format launch might suffer against the mega performing New Dr Who when even the well established and highly popular Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway has been well and truly exterminated in the ratings war for prime time saturday.

Insiders say a later time is being considered so that the show which might have future mileage even with the same contestants is not swamped by Dr Who hysteria.

The action in the ring is also rather feisty so some people working on the show think it needs to be screened later if everything can be shown. For example some of the girls get their tops ripped off in combat action-and you can't show that at 7 pm.

But if the two shows do end up going head-to head ITV will want to grapple some of those millions of viewers away from the BBC.The good Doctor pulled in 8.3 Million for its third episode last Saturday.

Dominik Diamond in the Star says although the new show is highly promising it would be madness to clash it with Dr WHO which is starting a two parter this week.He thinks ITV bosses have got carried away by how good it looks when it is totally unestablished against a dynamic revampof a legendary show.

Speaking of or rather to a legend-patrick lennon also in his regular wrestling star column has interviewed the legendary Roddy Piper who comperes the show. Not a lot of info but he seems to respect the participants.

"...patterned on WWE...with the celebrities when they were first told they probably thought ah good airtime. But you can talk about it all you want but when the bell goes it can get awful lonely out there.I don't think these guys knew what they were getting into.I don't even think any professional fighter does. You get in there, the ref steps back and there's not a damm thingleft to say. It's time to fight.Phychology wise in pro -wrestling unless you know what you're doing you don't draw any money. You can have all the muscles, paint, tanning oil and sit on a sunbed but you gotta know the basics. That's what translated here.In inventing these forms of combat the bottom line is you can tell if a guy knows what he's doing,if it comes from the heart. Those are the guys that draw money.........................(discusion of his induction into hallof fame and his troupe)............As for the show the jury is still out on the concept, although the fact that the celebs are shooting not working adds spice.
It's bound to be interesting watching Kate Lawler getting hot and bothered though."

So Roddy has singled out Kate for praise. He seems to have recognised she plays from the heart, she never gives up,she wants to beat you.

It says also scheduled for 6.30-7.45 which I have seen before but seems to conflict with other info that says 7.Also Bring it on ITV2 Jack and Holly behind the scenes 7.45.

BURNING QUESTIONS

ANDREW EATON .TheScotsman

COMING TO ITV soon: Celebrity Wrestling! In which Jade Goody’s ex-boyfriend, a Page Three model and some slightly less famous people fight inside a metal cage for your viewing pleasure. "Wrestling as it’s never been seen before!" ITV has promised. "Pretty undignified," responded Mediawatch UK, stating the obvious, somewhat.

Round one, then. If you’re up to speed on trash TV, you may already have learned that Kate Lawler (from Big Brother, remember? No? Oh) has a wrestling move called the "a***hole takedown"; that Michelle Heaton of Liberty X has her sights set on Victoria Silvstedt (she’s a Swedish model; do keep up) and plans to "grab her by the hair and rip it out"; and that footballer Lee Sharpe has already broken a rib. What fun! Presumably the contestants will later reveal how much violence has taught them about themselves, even though the only reason many viewers will tune in is the slim hope that someone - James Hewitt, oh please, please - will actually get hurt.

Here’s a thought: the programme at least some Celebrity Wrestling viewers would really like to watch is Bumfights. This, in case you missed the fuss, is a now notorious film in which San Diego tramps were filmed brawling and setting each other’s hair on fire. They were persuaded to do this by four young film-makers who offered them cigarettes, food, drink, and small amounts of money. One man, an alcoholic, was even persuaded to tattoo the word "Bumfights" on his forehead.

One of the film-makers, Ray Laticia, explained to CNN that fighting was part of tramps’ "culture", adding: "We’re simply there to video it." Bumfights was, with quite brilliant shamelessness, subtitled "Cause for Concern", as if its aim was to expose rather than cynically exploit. The whole thing was, screamingly obviously, appalling and unforgivable. But the world being as it is, the film sold hundreds of thousands of copies, at $20 each, and the phenomenon ran and ran, even producing a "sequel" allegedly bought by a Las Vegas company for $1.5 million. And yes, Bumfights’ creators went to court, but got off with a "misdemeanour". Why? Because the court couldn’t prove the film’s "stars" didn’t consent to be involved.

By a curious coincidence, just as we prepare ourselves for the onslaught of Celebrity Wrestling, Bumfights is coming to a digital channel near you (Reality TV, tomorrow at 10pm). It is, of course, not the original film - even digital couldn’t get away with that - but a documentary exposing the whole sorry affair. The tone is calm and serious, more than you’d think from a channel whose other April highlights include shows called Bald and Streak Party. Police, social workers and one still homeless Bumfights "star" are interviewed condemning the DVD. Very brief clips are shown.

Why would so many people want to watch Bumfights? Partly because it’s forbidden fruit, the idea being so blatantly abhorrent. But it is also, I suspect, about power. We are now so media-savvy, so used to whiz-bang special effects, that we don’t trust anything we see anymore. Much of the time we flinch from things that look staged, preferring to find entertainment in what we think of as "reality". The more "reality" TV we watch, though, the more we appreciate how "unreal", how staged and cleverly edited it is. This gives us power both as viewers and participants. Notice how the tone of each season of Big Brother shifts slightly, as the contestants, having watched previous seasons, learn how its "reality" is shaped by the producers, and how they can manipulate it themselves. We are all spin doctors now.

In this scenario, what we see is only "real" if someone is powerless, so two tramps fighting is about as "real" as entertainment gets. The homeless, as well as being at the bottom of the social power ladder, are at the bottom of the showbiz power ladder. No-one is dressing them, or choreographing them, or writing them press releases. In this sense, if no other, the stars of Bumfights have something in common with Z list, unemployed celebrities. They are compelling to watch because they are powerless enough that they will humiliate themselves for our entertainment.

Of course, Celebrity Wrestling is not Bumfights. But they have the same question at their heart: why would someone appear on a show like this? For money? Attention? Next up on ITV is a show called Celebrity Shark Bait - suggesting a channel on a mission to discover how far it can go before people start saying no. Bumfights suggests an answer: much, much further.

I think he's married.I'm sure he just respects a fellow wrestler.I hope he's not implying she lost her temper at a wrong time.

I'm deducing it may be Victoria's big moment but you never know what may be shown-also I'm looking forward more to what they will do on the ITV2 show more I must admit-behind the scenes action and in depth interviews about the science of Wrestling maybe.

Celebrity Wrestling Rocks My World

I did a quick hoover of the press while I'm travelling today as CW is all over it this week.

Sunday Mirror has loads of Kate so I started a separate thread in BB3 section.

NOTW has Victoria and Jeff two pagers plus in the magazine some features on the gym training.(a funny Kate photo amongst a casual shot of the dream team resting and a spectacular action shot of Victoria)

People have Leilani two pager

Star has two page general coverage with mainly leilani and victoria but a good shot of Kate's tattoo in action profile.(trying to shift a particularly large bloater)

I couldn't afford anymore. :D

Kate is in the Sunday Mirror newspaper:
In Kate Shape

Kate, 24, has put on 8lbs of muscle to prepare for her role as "The Brawler" in the ITV1 reality show. Kate is not so keen on her look but says her boyfriend JW loves having something to grab hold of.
Kate says she feels sexier when she is slimmer but Jonathan thinks she looks great with the extra weight on.
She was on of the smallest people taking part in the show. "I took one look at Jennie Powell and thought 'she's got arms like a geezer.' I saw how muscly her body was and I was frightened - I realised it was time to work out.
Kate prepared for the show by eating 2 portions of high - carb meals 3 times a day. "I didn't go up a dress soze or anything but I hated the fact that my jeans were tight on my legs."

Kate is also featured on the front cover and over 3 pages of the celebs mag of todays Sunday Mirror: New photos, of Kate in the newsaper and celeb mag also.
My passion for pushing woman around

"If TV doesn't work out, I'll become a pro wrestler"
I'm expecting Kate Lawler to be a diva. The 24-year old BB3 winner is currently fliming [b]CW

The rumour has it the female contestants have also been getting vicious outside of the ring. apparently, feuds between kate, page 3 girl leilani, and former tennis star Annabel Croft hve lead to extra rough behaviour during practice.
So i await kate with trepidation, excepting a fiesty lass who might take me out with a bionic elbow or ankle lock. (her wrestling nickname 'Brawler' does not help.) But kate, who strolls in couldn't be more genile. shes taller then expected, a pair of knee boots add another 3 inches to her 5'6 frame. Yes, she's confident and Boisterous - she takes great delight in showing me a massive bruise on her hand from getting cross with a pay meter yesterday ("It wasn't working so i started bashing it") - but feistiness aside, she's good-humoured, sparky and funny.
Her only concession to diva-don is she won't talk about her boyfriend RM footballer JW 'I'm sick of talking about that' she says, smiling, but decisively shaking her head.
She's also worried our hair stylist is about to set upon her with straightening irons. 'I can't have heat on my hair' she says, grabbing a lock of blonde hair extension.
So is there any truth in the rumours she has been rowing with her wrestling contestants? Kate guffaws and claps her hands. 'I love it!' she cried. 'I especially love it when people say Leilani and I don't get on. The thing with us right, is we're the only two on the show who've done boxing, so when we get in the ring, we really go for each other - we don't want to be boring.'
Kate goes on to talk about the other female wrestlers on the show, we have heard it all before so I wont type it out.
Posing for the camera in a pair of short dungarees, she is slim but not certainly not worryingly skinny super-waif we saw in October last year.

Kate's family will be coming to watch her fight and cheering her on.
No wedding for Kate: "There was a hilarious rumour going round I was getting married in Las Vegas this year. Someone thought they had overheard me talking about it. When in actual fact! I was talking about how much my dad wanted to go there." But no, marraige and babies are on the cards. "I think 35 is a good age for all that, don't you.?"
Kate will not be doing a Posh either. She loves Spain but wont be moving there because she loves her life here too much. JW wont be coming over to see her on doing the show because he is too busy in Madrid. Kate wont be coaxed into any more details about her and JW
Kate says she is delighted to be back on TV.She talks abou ther time on R:I:S:E and Capital Radio, and is now learning to be a DJ with one of her best friends. They had to turn down their first gig recently because they were both too busy. She is also helping out a friend who's a knitwear designer. "We've been working on some stuff together. I'm also going to do her PR - help her get her **** in gear to launch the brand."

"Nothing is set in stone, but I really want a to do more presenting"
"I would love something like CD:UK, or fashion-related." "I rreally , really loved wrestling....so maybe I'll becaome a professional wrestler.!

James Hewitt hase a 2 pager in the Sunday Mirror celeb mag.
He talks about how he still misses Diana, his old teacher, long arm of the law and how he would love to get more TV work "I have served what I think is a successful aprenticeship, with shows like The Games and Back To Reality, Now, with Celebrity Wrestling, I'm trying to carry it on. Hopefully, one day, I can do more serious things. like presenting or having my own travel show."

Nud-wrestler!

By Rachel Richardson

CELEBRITY Wrestling babe Victoria Silvstedt asked her hubby "Fancy a ruck?"...then floored him with a killer move.

Bit-of-brawl-right Victoria had spent weeks training for the reality show and when she got home to Chris Wragge in New York she was dying to get him in a half-nelson and show him her high-crotch takedowns!

But the gorgeous grappler, pictured here showing off her naked aggression, took his breath away with one particularly deadly move.

"I got him with a really good one called the ‘a**hole'," said the 30-year-old Swedish stunner—known as Ice Maiden on the show.

"You stick your leg behind your opponent and slam them down over your knee. Chris (below right) was shocked when I managed to get him on the floor.

"But we kissed and made up afterwards. That's the fun bit." The rough and tumble on the show left Victoria bruised. "I expected it to be physical but not as rough as it is," she said.

"I was amazed how seriously people took it. I went on the show to have fun, but after the first few sessions my shoulders were green and blue from being thrown on the floor."

Rivals Liberty X's Michelle Heaton and topless model Leilani Dowding slammed Victoria for being lazy, unprofessional and obsessed with her image.

But she happily admits she liked looking good for the camera. "I did wear make-up in training and for fights, but we all did," she said.

Victoria is seen in action in the first of the ITV1 shows on April 23, when she faces three bouts with Loose Women star Jenny Powell. The pair are seen ‘trash talking', trying to wind each other up before the fight.

Jenny pulls no punches saying: "Look at you with your plastic ****ing hair." Victoria admits the comments stung. "I was rubbish at shouting back and all I could think to call her was a skinny little runt. She got me with the comments she made about my hair."

The Ice Maiden says the knocks she took on the show were a bit too much. She said: "If I was asked to do the show again I'd definitely say no."
