The chances of Newcastle pair Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer being charged over their on-field brawl have moved a step closer.
Northumbria Police quizzed the pair on Tuesday after complaints from fans both at the game and watching on television.
And a file is now being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide if they will face criminal charges.
The pair were sent off after clashing during Newcastle's 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday, 2 April.
Bowyer was hit with a club record fine of six weeks' wages - understood to be about £200,000 - and a final written warning after the incident during the Premiership game.
The pair were also banned by the Football Association after their dismissals.
Dyer was handed a three-game ban with Bowyer getting a four-match ban as he had already been sent off this season.
On Tuesday, Bowyer admitted an FA charge of violent conduct and will be dealt with by a disciplinary committee at a personal hearing on Friday.
