I read a wide range of books (my house is bursting with them) and I love Harry Potter. I think it is really enjoyable escapism and I am not ashamed to read them. I think it is fantastic that these books are read - in my family alone - from my six year old daughter through me and my brothers to even my parents who are in their seventies :D

And I don't see much wrong with Enid Blyton - I grew up reading her books till well past bedtime with my little lamp on and thanks to her I got addicted to reading.

Yes by all means let the kids read Blyton, famous five secret seven etc and indeed Potter is of that level. Great books for children.

By all means read the books if you are an adult, but i would keep it under your hat unless you dont mind being scoffed at. Anyway the main reason this book is so popular is becasue of commercial forces, tesco and the like who are destroying the book world out pricing the other main stay outlets

Nope

My sister in law was mad on them and she used to go on about them all the time but I refused to read them. Then one day I bought them for my own children and I decided to read them first and got totally hooked. I know loads of adults who have read Harry Potter so don't feel the need to keep it under my hat.

And I buy plenty of other books so hardly feel that by buying Harry Potter cheap off Amazon I am destroying the book industry. :D

This has been a topic on room 101 with paul Merton by the women who plays Holy in red dwarf cant remember her name.

Anyway you wont change my opinion that there is something wrong with adults who read books like potter. the books are crafted to child mentality and i would argue that the fact that the adult along with a child can dispell mentaly child safety (as needed for harry to drive a car etc) slightly worrying :D

So you think there is something wrong with me? :-?

What about the fact that when I am feeling unwell I always go and get a book from my childhood from my children's bookshelf and read it because I find it comforting and like an old friend? Does that make me odd too?

If it does, well...hey I am happy to embrace eccentricity ;) :D

that gag was supplied by the Hippo agency for cheesey lines ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

re reading for child hood memories is one thing, actively diving into the childrens section in a bookshop to buy a potter book for yourself is another ,, was it the embarasement factor that caused you to order it online ,,, did they offer to put the name of an adult book on trhe receipt to guard your shame from a partner like they do with porn {@}  ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

Oh dear dear dear. . . . They really have hooked you haven’t they. Do you have all the potter novelty ware as well, I bet you even have potter plates and glasses :D ;)

So anyways, what really sells the book to you, is it the fact that there are no long words to vex your little blond brainy or the guarantee that the book is chewable safe.       ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

i feel i may be about to get slapped  :) {@} ::lol:: ::lol::

Yep I am hooked. I don't have any novelty things sorry to disappoint. I love them because of the amount of detail in there, she created a whole world and it is fascinating putting all the facts together. I can't wait to read the rest of the books.

I could make comments about my qualifications here and the fact that my family are all intelligent academics but hey - if you want to see me as a dumb blonde I won't ruin your fantasy ;)

Ok thats been 15 mins now without reply ,, ergo I win the arguement .. Adults who read Potter are official something deficient, where as I am perfectly normal {@} ::lol::
