'Soldier bigot' in wars

May 17, 2005
From:News.com.au

AUSTRALIA'S Jewish community is calling for Big Brother TV show contestant Nelson to be disciplined by the Army Reserve for his anti-semitic, "stupid" and "bigotted" remarks.

Nelson, an army reserve officer based at Enogerra barracks in Brisbane, called Big Brother "a jew" after he refused to provide housemate Constance with a nose-ring after she lost hers in a game.
While he was given an official strike from Big Brother for making the remark, the Jewish community says he deserves more of a punishment as an army officer.

"It would be appropriate for the army to have a look at him, to be under review," Jeremy Jones, director of community affairs at the Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council, said.

"We're aware there are going to be ignorant bigots in the community, but thankfully they don't all go on national television and express their views," he said.

The Army Reserve ruled out rebuking Nelson, saying his behaviour wouldn't be tolerated internally, but he made the remarks out of uniform.

16may05 :ADELAIDE CONFIDENTIAL

SHE has a penchant for pole dancing and losing her bikini top, but Adelaide's Big Brother contender Gianna Pattison has not worked as a stripper, it has been confirmed - although she has been a stripper's minder.

A spokeswoman for Bodz 'n' Babz - the promotions and modelling agency where Gianna used to work - says Gianna did not shed her clothes for the agency (which has strippers on its books) and that her work involved promotions and modelling.
Who magazine this week has revealed Gianna "moonlighted" as a stripper's minder.

Confidential has also dug up Gianna's application as a finalist for the Adelaide City Council's ambassador competition Faces Of Adelaide, won by other reality show contestants, Big Brother intruder Nicole Dickmann and The Resort's Pete Williams.

Meanwhile, we are trying to track down Gianna's ex, Shane Gilbert, for more goss. Give us a call, Shane.

QUEENSLAND'S sexy Big Brother contestant Michelle Carew-Gibson, has posed naked for a men's magazine and her pseudonym is "Harley".

Michelle, who told Big Brother producers she was a promotions model, was paid about $1000 to appear naked in Platinum Girls magazine.

Platinum Girls owner Steven Parrella said yesterday a photographer had taken about 300 photographs of Michelle in the nude and had filmed a video of the shoot last year.

"She had just moved to Queensland from Perth and needed some money," Mr Parrella said.

"She had some reservations on the day about appearing naked but when she saw how professional we were, she was fine.

"In the end she was very comfortable, a couple of wines does wonders."

Mr Parrella is now charging media outlets $8000 a photograph.

A handful of photographs had appeared in the third edition of the magazine.

But after the notoriety of appearing on Big Brother, Michelle's photo will now appear on the front cover of the seventh edition, to be released on June 24.

Michelle landed the job through her work as a promotional model for Pin-Up Promotions.

The twists and turns of Big Brother continue and Michelle is not the only contestant with secrets.

This week Queenslanders Nelson Russell, 23, and Dean Glucina, 24, as well as Victorian Constance , 21, were isolated for failure to tell the show's producers they were not "single".

Now, the public have begun voting to evict two of the three, who will be booted out of the house this evening and will not receive any prizes.

Nelson's girlfriend, Katie May, yesterday said her boyfriend of four months had lied because he thought it would give him a better chance of being accepted.

"He is just playing the game and he always said he wasn't in it to win it. He just wanted the prizes," she said.

Nelson had bragged to Big Brother he was in the house to win a car.

Katie said she thought Nelson would be voted out because he and the other housemates who were not single were being treated as separate from the group.

Dean's girlfriend, Emma Derbyshire, said she did not think it was fair he was being isolated with Nelson and Constance.

"Dean told the producers he was seeing someone and he was willing to sacrifice his place and they chose to put him in the house," she said.

The three evictions this week will make more room in the house for twins David and Greg Mathew, whose ruse to pretend they were one housemate, "Logan", was unveiled during Sunday night's show.

Big Brother promised to be tough this year, "tougher than the HMs". Tonight he showed he meant business. Constance, Nelson and Dean were removed from the house, and put in the Waiting Room. Tonight, as they settle into very uncomfortable bunks, they are completely uncertain of their fate.

"Some Housemates have broken Big Brother's rules and used deception to become a Housemate. This is unfair, both to your fellow Housemates and to those applicants whose places you have taken as a result. On several occasions through the selection process, you were reminded that should your personal circumstances change you were to tell Big Brother immediately. Certain Housemates failed to do this..."

Tonight Big Brother reprimanded three of the HMs for lying to him about their relationship status. After delivering the above announcement to the house, he continued: "Constance... Nelson... Dean... leave immediately."

The three shocked HMs then left the house and were directed by security guards to the room that only hours ago was the 'Rewards Room'. But now, with the opulent bed replaced with stretchers and Big Brother having taken away all lux furnishings (and the hot water!), it was more like a 'Punishment Room'.

Big Brother then spoke again to the three removed HMs: "You agreed to be entirely honest and truthful in all your dealings with Big Brother. You have not been. Constance, Nelson, not only have you broken the rules, but you have openly bragged about it to other Housemates. Dean, you confessed to it only when confronted by Big Brother at the 11th hour. Big Brother has decided your fate and will inform you in due course."

So what will happen to them? You'll have to stay tuned and watched tomorrow first BB Nominations show to discover their fate.

Three secret lovers are on their way to Dreamworld to join their partners as they face the music for their crimes against Big Brother. Two will welcome their partners back to the real world when the public decides to send two fibbers home. The other will have bittersweet feelings as their loved one stays in the house.

Dean, Constance and Nelson were removed from the Big Brother house on Sunday night and placed in the Waiting Room while Big Brother decided their fate. Tonight the trio made their case to Australia, begging telephone and SMS voters to keep them in the game.

Constance said: "The reason I lied was I really wanted to come in the house but at the same I'd fallen in love with somebody and I couldn't help that. So I shouldn't have lied and I'm sorry, so keep me in the house for fun and just because I've got a boyfriend doesn't mean ... all it means is that I won't be having sex....

Two housemates left the Big Brother house in shame tonight after Big Brother revealed they had lied to get into the house. Living up to his promise to be "tougher than the housemates" Big Brother let the public decide which of the three liars would be allowed to continue in the house. Australia chose Dean.

First out on the make-shift eviction stage with Gretel was Constance. "I was just sitting in the living room a moment ago. I'm hungry."

She said she thought the eviction would be next Sunday. "Yeah, it's fair. I went in there thinking that I was going to lie and that I'd be good at it, but I wasn't."

Constance was the first housemate into the waiting room on launch night, and was left waiting while the other HMs to be introduced to Australia. When Christie arrived to break the boredom, Constance was quick to subdue her: "Don't get too excited, there's only one room."

Constance was also the first to experience the toughness of this year's Big Brother house. When the HMs voted on the first night for someone to lose their bags it was Constance who sacrificed her possessions, which led to an emotional evening for the Melbourne hairdresser and many visits to the diary room over the week to ask for her suitcase back.

She formed an immediate bond with Nelson, as they shared stories of their "secret" love in the outside world and some fabulous bitching sessions about their fellow HMs. Most of the time she was the only girl that would stand up to Nelson.

Constance kept her promise to be a confrontational housemate, seeming to be at the heart of many arguments. Dean and Kate's spat on the first evening was about him pressuring Constance to skull her drink. Later in the week she upset Gianna with her matchmaking efforts with Logan.

Her plea to Australia to keep her in the house wasn't enough on Monday night. "I think without me the house might become a bit too nice and everyone might become a little bit too boring," she said.

The house was shocked to discover there were two evictions. Nelson told the HMs it would be a nicer house without him as he made his way to the eviction stairs.

"I'm loving it. I'm very excited. What do I win? I want goodies," he said when he got to the eviction stage with Gretel. "Having been in there I did meet a couple of great people in Constance, Dean and Glenn. They're valuable relationships that I will take away. But I do want a free car."

He speculated about the prizes he would be getting - perhaps a BMW, a plasma screen, a holiday and a couple of phones.

"Cheapskates," he said when Gretel told him he wouldn't be receiving any prizes. "I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't going to get freebies."

Ten days ago Nelson was very pleased to have made it into the house. He confided to Constance: "What they [2004 housemates] got last year was a car, a Playstation, a couple of phones and a trip to Vanuatu. I'm stoked! I get another two weeks off work and in two weeks I'll be desperate to get out of here. Yeah, here's a footy pitch and a table, but there won't be that much food on it every day and there won't be this much beer every day."

Angela took him under her wing the first evening, giving him a demonstration on how to put the toilet seat down, which turned out to be a useless exercise when he threw up the next morning from the first night's excess.

Her certainly told it like it was - telling Kate to "f*** off" when she bugged him one morning while making porridge, then informing the other HMs that she had f***ed him off and he was mad at her. He openly admitted to bitching behind people's back: "That's the way I do things."

He showed his softer side in the house, making a passionate plea to Big Brother to return his buddy Constance's suitcase to her. "We're both aware that I didn't bring that much into the house," he told Big Brother in confidence. "I'm not that stylish a person, I don't need the clothes. I think it's appropriate that someone like me give up their gear for someone like Constance. I wouldn't do it for many other people, especially not in this house."

On Monday night he showed some honesty in his public plea: "I don't have much of a case to plead. I'm not afraid to tell people what I think and I'm not afraid to express myself and I'm doing that more than most people I believe. I think that's why you should keep me in the house."

Quote:
BIG Brother evictee Nelson Russell has apologised to Australia's Jewish community after being evicted from the reality TV series.

The 23-year-old Brisbane army reservist was kicked out of the house last night, along with fellow contestant Constance Hall, one week earlier than the first evictions were due to take place.

The pair was found to have lied to Big Brother about their relationship status, with both saying they were single when they had partners outside the house.

"I regret that," Nelson said of his calling Big Brother a 'Jew' while in the house.

Nelson's slur came after Big Brother refused to provide Constance with a replacement nose ring when she lost hers in a game.

"I truly didn't mean to offend anyone. It was an off-the-cuff comment and if I could take anything back, I definitely would take that back," Nelson said.

"I was just trying to say that he (Big Brother) was stingy but I regret that."

The anti-Semitic comment attracted some negative press for the contestant and the Australia/Israel Jewish Affairs Council called for him to be disciplined by the Army Reserve.

On a lighter note, Nelson said he wasn't too disappointed at being forced to leave the house.

"I am a little disappointed at not getting any prizes but I'm not disappointed about getting kicked out.

"I knew the rules and I broke them."

Aside from the winner's ultimate $1 million prize, all Big Brother contestants usually go home with a package of prizes including a car, two mobile phones and a holiday for two.

But Big Brother ruled Constance and Nelson were not eligible for the prizes.

"I was going on to a game show to win prizes," Nelson said today.

"It is just like The Price is Right, that is the way I was looking at it and my main motivation was to win a car."

Nelson and Constance today tipped Glenn to win the competition.

And that seems to be the general consensus with online betting agency Centrebet tipping Glenn to win with more than 10 weeks of the competition to go.

"I have got my money on Glenn," Constance said.

"He is just a top bloke."

Nelson agreed, saying Glenn was "the only one in there that has convinced me he is a nice guy".

"The rest are trying to be nice but they aren't pulling it off very well."

VICTORIAN Constance Hall didn't mince her words upon leaving the Big Brother house yesterday.

"I forgot everything I said, I was being pretty rude," she said.
Hall found it difficult to relate to many of the housemates, particularly the girls.

"I don't have to socialise with people like that every day," she said. "I'm from Melbourne and we're pretty cool down here.

"I've got a great group of friends, so when I was put in the house with people like Michelle and Gianna I was pretty much beside myself. I thought, this is out of control.

"Angela is great, she is great.

"Gianna would jump up and down pole dancing all day long.

"I was wearing cowboy boots and she put them on, then she put Glenn's hat on, and wouldn't stop staring at us, just wanting us to watch her.

"She's out of control."

From Adelaide Confidential
18may05

WE already confirmed Big Brother contender Gianna Pattison isn't a stripper - but it seems she did date one.

Confidential caught up with Gianna's ex-boyfriend, Shane Gilbert, right, a former stripper in the Bodz 'n' Babz male revue show Bad Boyz Australia, who went under the stage name of "Blake".

The pair, who lived together at Norwood, in Adelaide, broke up last September. They met while working at Origin Energy. Shane now works as a travel consultant.

"I gave up stripping just before I became single," Shane, 28, says. "I wouldn't say it was completely her (why he gave up), but that was a huge issue in why we're not together any more."

The pair remained firm friends, though Shane says he did feel "a bit uncomfortable" about watching Gianna smooch Big Brother twin "Logan" on-screen.

So, any hard feelings for Shane?

"I haven't got a bad word to say about her," New Zealand-born Shane says. "She's a very strong-willed person and doesn't really care what people think of her, but she's a very nice person.

"She's done a lot for her age and a lot of people think it's lies, but they're not," Shane says.

She definitely has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. And as for her chest: "They are real. Gianna is 100 per cent natural."

Following the sudden departure of Nelson and Constance yesterday, BB has set the HMs a new challenge - to replace the not-so-perfect evictees with the "Perfect Housemate".

This week's task is to create the "Perfect HM" using the best features of every person in the house. BB has provided the HMs with latex and plaster to make a life sized "Perfect HM" statue which will be made up of a little bit of everyone.

Before starting work on the statue, the HMs put it to a vote to decide who's bits were best. Here's what they came up with:

According to Michael, Geneva has the best face. But according to Kate, Dean is the prettiest. The HMs put it to a vote and Kate was chosen to model for the statue's face.

Bald-headed Michael was the prime candidate for the statue's head shape. Tim's freshly waxed legs won him the "best legs" vote. Greg's arms were a winner, while his twin's neck and shoulders were voted his best feature. After a quick perusal of the shirtless boys, the HMs agreed that Glenn has the best back. Hands and feet went to Angela and Dean respectively. Christie won the award for "best bum". Gianna's well toned abs were chosen for the stomach. Hotdogs was picked to provide the hair and Geneva bravely volunteered to model for the groin.

As for Michelle, there's no prizes for guessing which body part she'll be providing. As Michael put it: "You paid all that money for them, they might as well get some exposure."

The HMs have been stripping down, oiling up and getting messy all afternoon casting latex moulds of each other's body parts.

Stay tuned for images of the finished product tomorrow...

Big Brother housemate Christie uttered the immortal "I'm intellect" line.

Now it appears her fellow contestant Gianna is equally verbally challenged.

"People have been saying I'm a seductress," Gianna said this week.
"I'm not here to seduct anyone."

While it's not Big Brother's policy to include books in the house, perhaps a dictionary wouldn't have gone astray this year.

***
THERE'S no reading material allowed in the house but plenty of other enjoyable pursuits are in store for the housemates.

Tonight BB will reveal to the contestants what's behind a secret wall in the lounge room – a bowling alley. Big Brother production designer Rodney Brusndon says the two-lane alley has been eight months in the planning.

"It's a major feature of this year's house," he says.

***
EVICTEE Nelson's Jewish racial slur while in the house was bad enough, but apparently that wasn't the only racist remark he made while on the show.

He allegedly made some particularly distasteful jokes which were shown on the Big Brother website's live cam but not on television.

***
CONSTANCE, who was evicted along with Nelson, says she may end up getting evicted from her home as well thanks to her careless boyfriend.

"I gave Conor [her boyfriend] my Bankcard to pay my rent," says the 21-year-old Victorian.

"But he lost it so I don't know if I've got a home though," she says.

Inital reaction was a bit of shock but otherwise they were both greeted warmly.
The was an air of unease with Gianna after getting close Logan (David ?). I'll have to watch the show again to confirm which Logan to was. it would have been worse if both Logans had tried to continue the relationship but as it was one kept his distance.

Great show again this year even though I can't access the live cam .The downloaded recording of the tv shows are some of the highest quality I've every seen which makes them easy to transfer to DVD format. Plus they are again in widescreen like last year.

Cat fights, pole-dancing and secret identical twins: this year's series is already more titillating than most. By now the two Logans may be exposed but you wouldn't bet on it with housemates this dense.

The first live eviction is always momentous. Who can forget the shock upset three years ago, when philandering Damien left instead of blubbering Katrina? Then there was Irena, ejected after trying to organise a housemate walkout (it flopped when no one listened). And Aphrodite, who, betraying her mighty namesake, stormed about for two weeks like an overwrought wreck.

Traditionally, viewers tend to eject housemates who are annoying, but whose presence is missed later. This time, let's hope we pick the wallflowers instead.
