Three schoolgirl sisters all with babies have defended living rent-free in a council house on benefits worth more than £30,000 a year.Julie Atkins and daughters Natasha Williams, now 18, Jade Williams, 15, and Jemma Williams, 14, survive solely on benefits of £600 a week - an annual income of about £31,000.Mrs Atkins admitted her daughters had "ruined their lives", but blamed their situation on the school system.

The girls say the fathers of their babies have had no contact with their children and contributed nothing towards the upkeep.

Youngest daughter Jemma was the first to fall pregnant, at the age of 12, after having sex with her teenage boyfriend. She gave birth to son T-Jay in February last year.

Just weeks later Jade, then 14, and 16-year-old Natasha - who is in a secret relationship with the baby's 38-year-old Asian father - found they were pregnant.

Natasha had daughter Amani in November and Jade followed with Lita in December.

The two younger sisters are still at school and are the only young mothers in the playground. Jade sits four GCSEs this year and hopes to work in IT. Jemma takes her exams next year.

All four mothers live rent free in their three-bedroom Derby house and receive a combination of income support, tax credits and child benefit.

Double divorcee Mrs Atkins, 38, remains unrepentant about the family's situation. She told the Sunday Mercury: "I don't care what people say about me.

"I blame the schools - sex education for young girls should be better. They have all ruined their lives because they are far too young to have children."

i seen this on gmtv this morning and she named all the benefits she got and how much she got and it was no where near what the papers are reporting! i think its a bit harsh putting all the blame on the mother (but i di think shes being stupid for blaming schools!) as a teen mum you dont really think of the consiquences at the time!

if there was anything likely to get my blood to boil and get me on my soap-box :8o: :8o: :8o: - it's comments like this from parents who clearly can't see that THEY have the ultimate responsibilty for educating and bringing up their children.....it's all too easy to blame somebody else......

I'm sure sex education in schools could be improved (as everything else probably) but we can educate til we're blue in the face - if the bairns haven't listened/don't care/have grown up seeing mum behaving promiscuously - then what exactly can 40 minutes per week of social education do? Forgive me, but 14, 15 and 18 yr old girls can't possibly be ignorant of where babies come from ${

rant over :wave:

is that £31,000 EACH or between them? That's still outrageous. Why do we have a social welfare system that makes it so attractive for young girls to play real-life mummy and daddy? GET OUT AND GET A F****** JOB YOU LAZY B*****s.

There, I said it. Their mum blaming the schools says it all. The worst thing is, this isn't a one off. Can't we have a policy of swapping asylum seekers who want to work with the home-grown leeches that drain our taxes?

Well, it was in the Daily Telegraph. If I can't believe what I read in the Daily Telegraph, what can I trust? It's probably more reliable than what the uneducated excuse for a mum reeled off on GMTV :-?

Just my two-penneth again, if you can't afford to have children then don't have 'em. As a single person I'd love a brand new car - can I expect the state to help me? Erm, no. Fair enough if you have children already and your circumstances change for the worse, but in my book, you make your bed you lie in it. I have very VERY little respect for benefit scroungers (although I have no problem with anyone who genuinely deserves them as I'm not totally heartless). I have more respect for dog poo.

I want to know how these people are getting all this money. I am a single mother with no job and they won't give me income support of any kind.....do i have to lie or something ${

I can never condone abortion. How you fund your new-born is up to you and if you couldn't afford it at the time, well, I hate to say but that should be something for you and your partner to worry about. Explain to me, why should I work my bl00dy socks off to fund your lifestyle? Everything I own in the world I worked for. And worked flippin' hard.
:-?

Just to be clear, I have no problem with people whose circumstances changed for the worse. And I wouldn't even begrudge some/a little support, but what some people spend their benefit money on is just plain outrageous.

well, that's fair enough, you made a choice and that choice meant a change in your lifestyle to then be able to afford looking after your child. In which case more people should take a leaf out of your book.

sorry, wasn't meant to be a personal attack on you - just what you'd implied in your earlier post (I misunderstood what you meant)

the state doesn't help either - they've made it far too attractive for people not to work. And there are some people who genuinely need support and don't receive it or receive as much. For example, the elderly and infirm, and those who suffer from mental disorders, often cared for by family members. People who have probably worked their whole life.
