but look at all benefits of living in London: congested or tolled roads, over-crowded trains, fumes, dirt, noise, all those tourists, crime, mile upon mile of housing and industry - and you get to pay for the privilege with the most expensive housing in the country. it can only get better...! ;)

what a bunch of pessimists! I don't live in London but I hope this country gets to stage such an important event. As for the French making derogatory remarks about British food - what else can you say about a country that eats horses, snails and frogs' legs?

its a shame the government didn't put a fraction of the effert into manchesters bid a few years ago

yet more london bias, just what this country needs

...if i'm still alive and kicking in 2012 (BB series 13, anyone?? )
the likes of me won't stand a chance of getting tickets.

You can bet your life, the tickets will be snapped-up by large corporations and the prawn-sandwich munching corporate hospitality brigade :8o:
and the scum of the universe, that are touts. :8o:

The London taxpayer (i.e =me) will be at the end of the queue when it comes to ticket allocation.

My blood pressure is going through the roof...i need a lie down. :-(

I think it's great that the Olympics are coming to Britain. But for the rest of the time, the rest of us are sick of having media shove London down our throats all the time.

Am very glad I don't live in London - quality of life is so good round here. The only gripe is posh Londoners buying weekend homes pushing their prices up :-? .

most Londoner's are not Posh.
most Londoner's struggle to make end's meet, living and working in such an expensive, largely filthy place. :-?

I couldn't give a f£$k about the Olympics as it will be **** loads of taxpayers money thrown into an area for 2 weeks worth of games and then left to be turned into a Ghetto by the locals. :-(

OK, I was negative before but having thought about it for a while I'm actually quite pleased London have got the games.
Like it or not we are stuck with it now so lets get behind it and support it :D

Congratulations to Seb Coe and his team for this achievement ()^ I hope the games are a success.

those are just token crumbs thrown to try and get a united front whilst bidding for the event.

I got excited we won it in a jingoistic way.

But I agree with ADRIAN_L.

The Olympics are just a cynical monkey-making exercise. Our money, their gain. Did anyone see those excellent Ch.4 documentaries that exposed the corruption and hypocrisy of the Olympic movement. Ch.4 has show some great documentaries over the last 18 months even though much of their other output is either American imports or juvenile gibberish.

The Olympics are good for the athletes and often good TV, but why should the games be so costly? Big business muscling in. It's the same in football. It existed before the big money, and hopefully will after the capitalist leeches have sucked all they can from it before they go looking for a new plump host.

Such a lot of bruhaha over what is nothing more than a lot of men and women getting sweaty. Albeit separately. ;)

yeah, me too. it was good to see the French crying in to their cold frappes. and I hope they served haggis to Chirac after he made derogatory remarks about British cuisine (Scotsman)

C4 do make some good docs when they make the effort. I'm not too keen on the Olympics - it's all a bit too political - as much as the World Championships in individual disciplines. The whole thing about awarding the games to Beijing. The last time the "youth of the world" gathered there they were faced with tanks :-? . And it's all for just 15 days. And as Adrian_L says, it'll get ruined by the locals. And London gets another world-class stadium.

BUT, I think it's great that this country has been chosen to host such an important event. Good job we told them yanks the stadium was going to be built close to Shakespeare country :D
