I sadly have to wrestle the large print books from the OAPs in the library if I wont to read a book nowadays, instead I take the easy way out and get the talking books out instead :D

A few years ago, people predicted that books would go out of fashion, because of the Web. But it isn't working out that way. I ADORE books, and I'm glad to say that the wee kids I teach love them too. My 7 year olds have been sitting reading Roald Dahl novels meant for kids a couple of years older and they are really engrossed. The 6 year olds have been spending ages finding out facts from information books.

There's just something about bookshops. I could spend all day in one. And I often think I need a bigger home, just to store all my books in. It breaks my heart when I have to part with some to my friend's second hand bookshop - simply because I can't fit any new ones in!!

Our 7 yr olds are reading Roald Dahl too and the year above Dick King-Smith.Dahl is great because his books can be read at so many levels. Can read them at any age.My own kids love Jacqueline Wilson for their bedtime story....I get very sad by the number of other parents who are so surprised that I didnt stop reading to them when they entered school(And some of these parents are pretty educated). In my opinion, the decline in parents reading(and listening ) to their child is responsible for any decline in literacy standards.I know so many children entering school who cannot construct a simple sentence correctly because no-one has read to them or even speaks to them properly. It's very sad

My grandmother didn't stop reading to her grandchildren even when they (we) were grown up. She used to come upstairs to read me a book when I was weaving, it was great! I read to my children (one of them is already at school) almost every evening, and sometimes we read to each other with my husband ;) I think that I read still a book per week or something just by myself. My children usually wants to sleep near their books - and my son usually tries to read through the night with his flashlight under his covers ::lol::
