The one thing I'm good at is resisting spam, online and off.

The "I love you" virus didn't get me. I knew everyone loved me, I didn't need telling!

If your email is publicly viewable on the web, the email hunting programs spammers use will find it, so you'll end up getting every virus. Which is why many sites don't list a direct email address.

Or if someone you know infects their own computer by falling for one of the scams, the virus will find your email addy in their address book.

This has happened to email addresses I use because people I'm in contact with are new to computing and are easy prey for these idiot spammers.

Luckily the ISPs of the world keep ahead of the spammers.

I can only get emails at work from public sector addys(civil service, academic, nhs schools).Fortunately most of my contacts have those addys and I email them at work.I very rarely use it at home..only for MSN and even then occasionally.

I always tell people if you don't know the sender, bin it.

And NEVER open any attachments.

Advertisements... I can't bother them. And I know I'm at minority club with my behaviour. It's my children that remembers every ad they have between childrens weekend-morning cartoons better than stories in cartoons. ;) (just joking) But it was helpfull few weeks ago when I searched a birthday-present to my sons mate. I didn't know what was the Air-Zooka, but children knew. :D I don't read ads even in newspapers if I'm not searching a certain good. Of course I'm aware what's available somehow in the shops, but it's not that important - it's important what I want. I don't buy if articles aren't excatly those that I wanted. And that makes my husband sometimes nuts ::lol:: - but I know he respects me for my opinions (For example - can't use NIVEA at all, I use Piz-Buin no matter how much they advertises their products) ;) If there are ads between TV programs we usually change channel or get up from in front of TV and do something else if we weren't doing something else at the same time (like reading a book or home tasks or...)
